For my first official blog post, I decided to complete the V.A.R.K. Quiz as the academic aspect of the enrichment workshops. Although I would’ve enjoyed attending school events and participate in being a proud Baruch Bearcat, I chose to complete the V.A.R.K. Quiz because there just wasn’t enough time due to the various days off and completing this quiz was probably the easiest and most stress-free task compared to the other options. The V.A.R.K. quiz is a tool found in the back of the student handbook which is designed to show freshmen how they learn best by answering a total of sixteen questions. After the quiz is complete and the calculations are done, each student receives a score for Visual, Aural, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic. For my results, I received a score of 8 for visual, 9 for aural, 14 for read/write, and 8 for kinesthetic. I found this quiz to be not as accurate as I thought it would be according to my own understanding of how I believe I learn best. Though I do agree with the result I got for the reading/writing component, I also think that I learn best visually and aurally. The questions in the quiz were very random. I feel that if the questions were more directly involved with the important decisions students take everyday in both their personal and academic life then the results would be more precise and would help students understand their strengths and weaknesses better.
