Freshman Seminar Fall 17 BRB

Baruch Voices 2017

Last Thursday, November 2nd, I attended Baruch Voices where one classmate from each Freshman Seminar session came together to share their monologue. Whether if it’s a poem, rap or a short story, the purpose of a monologue is for one to express one specific event that either already occurred or is still ongoing. What impact does that event have on them –the effects and how it represents them symbolically as a person. During that hour or so, I think my list of “funniest moments at Baruch” had extended. One had a specific piece that was all about Popeye’s chicken –that chicken tender, juicy. I can’t even remember the exact words right now. I did remember that I was laughing so hard, I had to take a couple deep breaths to maintain my breathing rhythm. Everyone’s monologue was very interesting, recalling the guy who had a job at Maimonides Medical Center, Carl Rubio who lied, and much more. They spoke with lot of emotion and I sensed the connection that they were trying to get across. Attending this event made me realize that the Baruch community consists of many people with many different experiences and stories to tell –and they’re based on their culture, their enthusiasm, diversity and religion.

Fall 2017 Club Fair

Last Thursday, September 28th marked one month since the semester began. It certainly felt like a couple of months with all the workload from my classes. I went to the Fall 2017 Club Fair at NVC Main Gym to check out some of the clubs and what each had to offer. Many people said and still now say that joining clubs or any group during your Freshman year has many advantages with one being that it gets easier knowing people because you had already met many since starting at a new school. I do agree with that point.

Thing is, not many clubs had really caught my attention yet. The gym was packed and I was overwhelmed by trying to navigate from one booth to another. I was stopped by a representative from Japanese Anime Asylum and another from eSPORTS ASSOCIATION. They told me what their club was all about and how students may contribute by joining. However, I’m not a huge fan of Anime or am I a gamer –which was okay, as they said. Not everyone would start liking something until they give it a try. Interests are developed as time progresses. Maybe I should it a try, and if it turns out that it’s not for me, that’s fine. Other than that, this fair helped me know more of what Baruch has to offer for its students.
