My experience in the Accounting Association’s General Interest Meeting.

On September 7, I decided to go to the accounting association’s GIM. It was a new experience for me because I usually don’t partake in extracurricular activities. However, I decided to go to this event because  of the upcoming deadline of this blog assignment. Also, it would help me gain some form of experience, one way or another. I was nervous about going at first because I didn’t know anyone, but the icebreaker game threw all that anxiety away because it forced me to quickly make some friends. The game was fun even though it was completely rigged and everyone was on their phone cheating. After the game, there was a presentation on what the club was about, and upcoming events. There was one in particular that caught my eye, and it was the one where we get to meet people from KPMG. Which, I found to be an exciting event because it would give me an opportunity to start somewhere with my life.  After the presentation I met with the staff to keep my name/ face in their mind. Kevin, the clubs planner, was particularly interesting because he had connections with my family that I didn’t even know about. It was funny because at the beginning of the meeting he asked me if I knew him from somewhere. Obviously not, but apparently he knew my cousin. Meeting Kevin also inspired me to join the clubs planning center, which is where people decide what to do. I also remember them saying something like they need people to escort the visitors. Which is a great opportunity for me because I can meet them first hand and get my name out to them. I’ve gained extensive knowledge on what they do, and how they would benefit me as a whole. I met a lot of new faces and met with the staff themselves. (Side note: That’s Kevin next to me).
