Earlier in the year, I attended the Baruch Career Fair which was held in the Main and Auxilary gym for all interested students. The purpose of the Career Fair was to expose the younger students to the competitive employment environment, and for the senior students, it allowed them to distribute their resumes and apply for internships and possible jobs. The Career fair was an intense experience which allowed me to experience the real world. I was able to ask questions and learn about the job application process for big corporations and smaller firms too. In addition, I was able to talk to fellow students about their experiences with the job and internship application process, when you learn about the process and the issues others in the same place as you go through it prepares you for the future more effectively. Learning about the larger firms, such as Bank of America, was very interesting because I learned about the employees’ daily life and daily struggles for working with one of the largest firms in the world. Even though I was unable to apply for any internships because of my freshmen status I was able to learn about the application process and what the Human Resources at large and small firms look for in my resume and during the interview process. The Career Fair opens up opportunities to the entire Baruch student community, it allows everyone to expose themselves to the real world and what comes after college. The opportunities and experiences that the Career Fair is something that everyone should participate in, Baruch College brings in professionals from all different types of businesses and corporations it is up to the students to take advantage of this opportunity. The Career Fair is one of many events that Baruch College sponsors for the students, I have learned that at Baruch College the opportunities to succeed in the professional world are there for all students and all we need to do is take advantage of these opportunities.

Hello, how are you?
I’m good, I’m good.
So I have a question, do I have to take this class, because I feel like I’m limited and need something more challenging.
Yep, Ya, I understand that we have all these general requirements but as an accounting major can I take a different class?
Well, what if I replace the Gen Ed class with this night class, I can go to class after work and that would be perfect.
No, I can’t I have to go to soccer at that time.
Haha ya, I’m a little busy, but I’d rather be busy than bored and have too much time.
I study at night after work or before school when I have time, it’s not bad I actually enjoy it a lot.
Well, yea that’s what you gotta learn in college.
Well, I gotta make decisions all the time, like I know that I can’t go out every night even though I have the opportunity to now.
Ya I do when I got time, but I’m sure you know very well time is precious
Ya, I love it, the idea of being independent and responsible for everything is great but stressful at the same time.
Well being in control of your own decisions 99% of the time is everyone’s dream, but at the same time you know that you have only yourself to blame for anything bad that happens, Kinda like making sure I’m taking classes that challenge me
Ok, so I guess I’ll ask to change my work schedule and I can take the Honors class instead, can I email you tomorrow morning to let you know 100%?
Thank you so much, have a good day.
Student Life Blog Post Elliot Breslav
Every week since college has started I have been attending Hillel at Baruch Collee 20 minute Monday events. These weekly events allow everyone with Jewish heritage to network and meet other people with similar backgrounds and experiences. In addition to the free kosher pizza that is given out on a weekly basis, the club engages in a discussion about the current events occurring domestically and globally, from 9/11 remembrance to Yom Kippur values. It is very convenient and generally nice to have a group of people to talk with similar values whenever I need it. Through our discussions and pizza bonding sessions, I am able to meet new people and make friends within one of the largest clubs at Baruch College. In the last 20 minute Monday we discussed the Las Vegas terror attack. We talked about the 50 plus individuals that lost their lives on Sunday night and the hundreds injured and we talked about prevention techniques by just being aware of our surroundings and paying attention to those around us. In addition, we recognized the terror attacks that happen in Israel frequently because of the religious intolerance in the Middle East. It is extremely upsetting and frightening that a terror attack can occur at any time anywhere but we must keep living life to the fullest and never let terror win. The idea behind terrorism is to cause a disturbance in people’s daily life in addition to instilling fear with everyone, by continuing in our everyday routines we are able to win over terrorism, but we must always be wary and cautious of our surroundings. After discussing these important themes we respected the victims of the terror attack by having a moment of silence. By joining Hillel at Baruch College I am exposed to new people with similar ideologies as myself.
Accounting Society GIM Elliot Breslav
At the Accounting Society of Baruch General Interest Meeting I learned about the requirements and standards for each member of the club. Currently I plan on majoring in accounting and I understand that getting involved in as many accounting related clubs and activities will only help me in the future. The board members of the Accounting Society explained that it’s mandatory each applicant of the Accounting Society attend the General Interest Meetings, and attend a minimum of 5 voluntary events such as a walk in support of Cancer treatments or their annual Pajama day for unfortunate children. These volunteering events at the club help show future members that even though we are here for an education and to eventually land a job it is always good to give back. Big firms in today’s day and age understand that it is morally the right thing to help the less fortunate and the Accounting Society understands that too, that is why we help those who need it. In addition the Accounting Society has extremely impressive connections to firms such as JP Morgan, EY and many others. For my future these connections can help me get internships or even jobs. The Accounting Society of Baruch can help me assimilate with the Baruch culture during my first semester with the friends I make, more importantly it will help me in the future with helping me make connections with firms and future business leaders that are members of the club too. The Accounting Society at Baruch has additional events that help the members with their future endeavors, such as the Interview Workshop that is on September twelfth. Other events such as Resume workshops will help the members with acting correctly and appropriately at interviews and other official events. The endless opportunities at the Accounting Society motivate me to join and be an active member within this club.
