Major Minor Fair (Career)

I went to the Major Minor fair that was on Tuesday to see what the options for my future are. I had to wait outside for around thirty minutes because it was inconveniently places thirty minutes after class ended but I endured. Upon entering we were given a sheet to fill out and booklet about the different paths being presented at the event. When there I first went the the economics major representative and asked about what careers someone in that field would be involved in. The answer I revived wasn’t to outside of my realm of expectation; it was mostly consulting and advising businesses. The one thing that I did take away from that booth was that it was more open then I had thought. This idea was continued with the other booths I looked at. While I didn’t get to approach the writing booth because the guy was talking to a student for close to half of an hour, I did hear a lot about the major/minor. Luckily the entrepreneurial major was right next to the writing major and it had no line. I was able to get a handout from him and learn about the resources that the college provides for students looking to get into that field. Lastly I went to the marketing booth which was quite interesting as it applied to three different sects. The one that I found most enticing was the advertising path which looked at online data to find which groups would like certain products. If I had to provide an all encompassing theme to this trip it would have to be that everything is way more open than it appears and your degree limits your career only to an extent. This was paralleled by what we learned in FRO but it was nice to hear more opinions and diversify my sources.

Club Fair (Fritz Rosenthal)

Early in my career at Baruch, I attended a club fair in the school. While I was there, I found out many things about student life in Baruch and the various clubs available. During the fair, I spoke to many club members such as those in the marketing club and student government. I was given many flyers and handouts for a multitude of clubs some of which I threw out, others I kept because of possible interest. The club fair was on the first three floors of the Baruch building and there was free food everywhere so I took advantage of the situation. I was going from club to club getting food from the different rooms and by the end, I found myself in the student government room at the end of the hall. From here I found out a little about student government and life at Baruch. I went in there with some friends so when they were ready to leave we left and started to go more into the main area of the fair. While in the crowded walkways we were approached by multiple clubs, some of which I don’t remember and gave them my email. I don’t think I have gotten a response of the clubs to it is possible that I entered the wrong email. What I noticed is that the people pitching their clubs were often not very informative. The description tended to boil down to “Ya, we just chill. We’re cool people, you should join the club. Hahahahahaha.” Which is fine for a club like the business frat which followed that formula closest. I had a lot of fun looking at the clubs but I wanted to see how school was going before joining any. The club that I was most interested in joining from my experience was the marketing club because it sounded interesting. I may join it in the next semester so that I am acclimated to college. Because of the time that this fair was it allowed me to talk to people who have been to the school for a few years about their experiences and give me a heads up on what to expect. I think that the club fair after convocation was incredibly useful and am grateful I attended and took advantage of the opportunity.

So, I saw that one of the options in the booklet was to go to a museum. I am a fan of the Met and decided to go and take some pictures and look around. I found some high quality art in my adventure. The first thing that I stumbled upon was a particular statue in the Roman section. I thought it looked like Voldemort so I had to snag a pic with him.

I continued to wander around and went into the African section. While there I was greeted by a large dancing ore and thought that I had to swipe a pic with it. I traveled to the medieval section afterwords and found a statue of the first Pope, Peter. With divine inspiration I was blessed with a pic. I found it fun to wander around and look for interesting things to take pictures of. While there I also found a baby with a sickle. I joked to my friend that it was soviet propaganda and took a picture with it. Lastly we went to my favorite section, the arms and armor.

There I found the armor of King Henry the 8th which I thought was pretty cool. If you haven’t been to the Met, I would highly recommend going but even if you have you should go again. It is a great collection of art from different cultures and categories much like people in Baruch. There is something for everybody.
