For my career blog, I decided to attended the Majors and Minors fair. This was something that I didn’t even know that I needed. Entering college, I didn’t have any direction. I always just told people “I’ll just do marketing or something”, because that seemed like the obvious choice to me. I didn’t have a passion for anything that would land me a decent job and I assumed I would figure it out along the way. However, thanks to the fair, I have narrowed down my options. I decided, instead of thinking what I want to do, i’ll think about what I don’t want to do. So with the list that they handed out naming all of the majors and minors offered at Baruch, I started crossing off the ones that didn’t interest me at all. Accounting-cross, Statistics-cross, anything to do with science-CROSS. Now that I had a sense of what I didn’t want, I went into the fair with a better sense of who I wanted to speak too. One career that interested me the most was International Business, something I previously knew little about. After speaking to someone from that department, I decided it’s something worth looking into. I would get to have a semester abroad, which I planned on doing anyways. I already speak a second language so that is a plus. Of course in general, business is a broad career and graduating with an International Business degree would benefit me a lot. I also considered some minors that I found intriguing. Overall, i’m really glad I went to the fair, because it opened my eyes to what road I can choose to go down.
