I recently attended one of the parties that are organized for Heritage Month. I originally was not thinking of doing anything related to Latino Heritage Month but I was inadvertently pulled in. I saw a massive crowd in the main lobby and I wondered what was going on as I got closer I started to hear loud music. I pushed through the crowd to see a bunch of people dancing and singing while a DJ played some very loud Latin music. While I did not actually sing or dance I did stay there until I had to go to class. I did not really learn much from this event but I did talk with a lot of new people and made some new friendships. This marked the beginning of me appreciating just how different college is from high school.
It was a nice experience and it made me realize that college does not have to be as boring as high school could be at times. The people seem much more relaxed and willing to talk and enjoy themselves and I look forward to going to more of the heritage month events.
