Monologue
Just like many of you I have grown up playing many different sports. From little league baseball to high school football. But no sport was more challenging and fun than Track and Field. I started running track my freshman year at Xavier High School. The main reason that I had joined was the fact that my brother had done it for four years before me and said I should give it a try. So I ended up trying it and it was one of the best decisions of my life. I jumped into training after my Freshman football season and took it from there. Day in and day out I went to school, practiced, and then studied at night. This routine was strenuous at the time, but I soon came to realize that I had some of the best times of my life during these days. Some of my greatest relationships were forged with the guys training right beside me all those difficult days. There is an unparalleled bond you make when you undergo the same trials and tribulations as the man next to you. You build a mutual respect for one another through your efforts to reach the same goal, which was to drop the best time that you possibly could. An unique condition that Track and field has is how it’s an individual sport just as much as it is a team sport. The point of the sport is to be the best athlete you can possibly make yourself, while at the same time trying to bring your teammates up as well. Without Track and Field I wouldn’t be the person I am today and I wouldn’t have all those fond memories that I will hold onto for the rest of my life.
MoMa Visit
I had the pleasure of visiting the MoMA this weekend with some of my friends. It was nice to visit one of the many museums that we have here in our city as well as use the on of the many benefits I have by being a Cuny student. This was my first time actually visiting this museum and I was surprised by the intricacies of all the exhibits. At first I thought it was just going to be a basic art museum where none of the works really catch the viewer’s eyes or make an impression, but I was honestly impressed. The first thing that you see when you enter the exhibition floor is a full scale model of the MoMa itself. It was a hundred percent accurate to the smallest details such as the stairs going from floor to floor and the square with benches outside the museum itself. They had countless pieces from various time periods. Each piece had a complex story to tell about the world during the time and place it was made. Not only did the museum contain paintings that jumped out at you, the MoMa also had sculptures that depicted faces of people, majestic animals, even the moons and stars of space. Then if sculptures and paintings aren’t your preference they have a section for photography and film. I enjoyed my visit to the MoMa immensely and I would recommend everyone to visit as well.
Latinx- First Impressions
The Thursday of September seventh was rife with uncertainty for myself. Going into school on that day I knew that it was club day and I had no idea which organization I would want to join. Having the faintest clue which club to join I walked through the doors of the school, the next thing that hit me was the blasting Latino music coming from the second floor. Then, in a few moments, I finally reached the epicenter of the music and there I found something that brought a smile to my face. A crowd of people dancing and having fun with each other in the middle of the dance
floor. This made me happy because it made me think back to my own family’s house parties. My family being of Colombian heritage added to the parallels of this experience and my personal memories. So after being inebriated by the music and the happiness that when along with it I decided to go get more information at the help desk. There the gentleman sold me and I knew I wanted to join the club as soon as possible. I look forward to experiencing the various different Latin cultures involved in this club.
