Starr Career Development Center

The Starr Career Development Center helps all undergraduate students plan their careers.  They are there to help you plan your career when you graduate from Baruch.  I found the career center very helpful.  The staff at the career center helped me create a better resume.  They read what I had and gave me constructive criticism to make it appealing to employers, taught me how to properly format my resume and the importance of a cover letter, and gave me insightful career advice.

The Starr Center helped me create a better resume that would be appealing to future employers.  I was told what key words to use that would jump out to hiring managers.  Some words that are important to use are: managed, learned, utilized.  These words will help me to be more desirable to prospective employers.  The Starr Center also stressed the importance of networking and establishing contacts.  Networking can help with internships and future job openings.  I plan to utilize the different clubs that we have at campus and the career networking events even though I am only a freshman.

The Starr Career Development staff offered insightful career advice.  I would like to major in Finance while at Baruch College, however, I was not aware of the many career options that a person with a finance degree has available to them.  I could combine my interests outside of school to my interest in finance.  For instance, I can work in the finance department of a fashion designer or cosmetics company.  The staff person also gave me suggestions and advice in getting accepting into the Zicklin School.  I was told about possible internship options and classes while an undergraduate at Baruch College.  The Starr Career Development Center is definitely a center that I will be visiting again in the near future!

Monologue

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;

I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.

The evil that men do lives after them;

The good is oft interred with their bones;

So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus

Hath told you Caesar was ambitious:

If it were so, it was a grievous fault,

And grievously hath Caesar answer’d it.

Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest

For Brutus is an honourable man;

So are they all, all honourable men–

Come I to speak in Caesar’s funeral.

He was my friend, faithful and just to me:

But Brutus says he was ambitious;

And Brutus is an honourable man.

He hath brought many captives home to Rome

Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill

Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?

When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept:

Ambition should be made of sterner stuff:

Yet Brutus says he was ambitious;

And Brutus is an honourable man.

You all did see that on the Lupercal

I thrice presented him a kingly crown,

Which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition?

Enrichment Workshop

For my enrichment workshop and blog post I will be talking about how I attended the Museum of Sex in New York City. I got in with a discount with my student ID. I went to various different exhibits within the museum and learned a lot at each of them. One exhibit I found fascinating was the sex of different animals. It talked about the history of each different species and how they produce life overtime. It was fascinating to learn about how life is created from humans to animals. I learned how special procreation really is. I also went to an exhibit learning about the femininity of New York fashion week. While I was at the museum I met a friend! Her name was Elizabeth and she was so nice,  we went to the gift shop afterwards together to get a T-shirt souvenir. Elizabeth and I also got dinner later in the evening at Chipotle. I learned a lot about her, and she learned a lot about me. We are getting lunch next week one day again! I had a great time going to the museum I learned a lot and I also made a friend. This experience helped me to be more social and also learn about my community here in New York City.

Blog #1

During my exploration of the Baruch campus, I came across the gym.  This really interested me because I have a passion for health and fitness.  My typical workout includes weight training, which is the best way to tone your muscles and stay in shape. The Baruch gym has wide variety of machines which help me target each muscle group in my core, arms, and legs.  After my workout, I explored the basketball court which is a great way to get in your cardio workout.  In addition to burning calories, it is a great workout for your abs.  Overall I can see myself spending a good amount of time in this location as it has everything I need to improve my physique for free.  I no longer will find myself spending money at the New York Sports Club because of how well kept and clean this university gym is. During my first trip here, I met another girl named Samantha who also finds herself spending majority of her time here. We both have a strong passion for fitness and improving both our mental and physical health. It’s amazing that one place can bring people together, and this place just so happens to be my favorite place.
