Freshman Seminar Fall 17 EMA

SACC Tutoring

On Friday the 17th I went to SACC tutoring for MTH 2003 since I have been struggling lately on understanding certain topics and I tried to refresh my memory on older ones as well.  It was really helpful since I attended a workshop and the tutor had a simple way of teaching.  He would call on a student one by one and ask them to show him a problem they were struggling with and then he would move onto the next student and repeat the process.  It was a very clear and understanding method to follow because it not only helped me, but also getting to see what others struggled with was more reassuring to know I wasn’t alone and it also showed me more topics that I should focus on for preparing for the final.  For most of the workshop there were only two people attending the it and more people filtered in later on.  Having a small group was beneficial because it was easier to understand what was going on because the tutor could focus longer on questions and also could answer more of my questions.  Overall, he explained his responses in a simple way that could be easily understood.  My tutor’s name was Carl and I would definitely recommend him to other students who need help in Pre-Cal, or MTH 2003 more specifically.  While this wasn’t such an enjoyable event to attend, it was the most helpful one I have gone to in Baruch and I highly recommend other students go as well.  Even if it was on a Friday, it was worth going to SACC tutoring and take out some time from your day.  I will for sure beattending more tutoring sessions in the future especially for finals and especially for a subject I have struggled with since the beginning of the semester.  sack

Club Fair

On Thursday September 28th, Skylar, Sofa, and I all went to the club fair to look at what clubs Baruch has to offer. We took a tour around the gymnasium and stopped at a few of the clubs. We looked at Lexicon, Femcode, USG, Women in Business (which I am a part of), and many more. It was a pretty fun social environment with music playing in the background and getting to know more about how Baruch gets their students together for clubs. Going to this fair I got an insight of what clubs I really am interested in and if in the future I would be thinking about joining more of them since I already am in one club. Not only did we look at clubs, but we also got information about some of the committees Baruch has such as the health and wellness committee along with sexual harassment. It was an enjoyable experience because I spent time with my friends and because I got to see other students at Baruch. Seeing all the different and diverse clubs was also interesting to see. For example, I had no idea we had an archery club, and also, some clubs seemed really different than the rest which made me more interested in them, such as the Wall Street Club, even though they meet Friday evenings, I was still very interested in their meetings of bringing in successful people and getting opportunities to ask them questions. Overall, I really enjoyed the club fair because I got to see Baruch in a more interactive way and I also made myself more informed about what events and meetings other clubs have going on so I don’t stick only to Women in Business, but instead, I can try other things in the future as well.

Career Fair

On Friday the 15th, Skylar, Cynthia, and I all decided to go to the Career Fair at Baruch.  It started at 12:00 and ended at 4:00, and we all had to wear professional business attire in order to get in.  We waited on the line from the basement into the lobby in order to go to the fair, and then we were overwhelmed by how crowded it was inside.  There were a plethora of dressed-up students and inside the fair we gathered some information from various business, such as Barnes and Noble and TD Bank. I decided to approach those two corporations because I’m interested in marketing and I would like to work for large corporations such as these.  It was a good idea to go now to the career fair now as a freshman so we could get an idea for what to expect when we’re actually looking for internships as sophomores.
