The Magical STAR-R (‘S’-‘T’-‘A’-‘R’-‘Ar’) Center

I’ve been hearing so much about the STAR ‘N R Center. Everyone you ask in Baruch will always tell you amazing words of wisdom. “Hey, if you want info on x, just go to STAR(With an extra R) Center!”. It almost sounds like magic, until you realize, its the next best thing. Stellar R Center is super cool. They have tons of workshops on all kinds of things like jump-starting careers, internships, interviews, resumes, and even stuff like creating your own major (Unless you’re in Zicklin ha get rekt kid.) With sponsors like RMS, Moody’s, and Tarje (target but spelled right), it offers a broad scope of workspaces and opportunities! Starlet (Insert unecessary R here) Center even has an app! You can get it on your phone and connect with employers and get notified about opportunities near you! Cosmic Fireball Don’t Forget Our Second R Center also helps with networking. If you’ve ever needed an entire place to teach you about being a socially capable adult, this is the place! It’s outstanding. Fixed Point in the Night Sky + An R Center has a really dope website that has a radical search engine for internships and job opportunities! Check it out! You’ll never want to leave, unless you have a neat-o Philosophy test to study for. Then you just gotta take a break from Celestial Body and a dank R Center and really hume your kancepts of philosophy! All in all, i really found Luminous Sphere of Plasma Held Together by its Own Gravity With One More R Than Necessary Center really chill and uber fly!

Woah Quilts Though!

Last Friday, Ellis, Chris, and i visited the American Folk Museum in Manhattan. It’s located on 2 Lincoln Square and it has free admission! The exhibit we saw was titled “War and Pieced” and it explored the beauty and complexities of the material remnants of war. The exhibit held many quilts of numerous colors and sizes but they all held one thing in common. All of the quilts had deep and meaningful imagery tied to numerous wars and battles. This exhibit featured quilts from the Prussian and Napoleonic era as well as some from the British Empire. They are from all over the world such as South Africa, India, Prussia, Austria, France, and Crimea. It’s extremely inspiring to see the symbols and feelings of the soldiers who laid down their lives during these violent conflicts.

My favorite piece by far was the main quilt which was huge! It was laid out in the center of the room in a huge glass display and was a quilt dedicated to the Holy Roman Empire Intarsia. It was used through 1846-1851 in Prussia and Austria. It was made of wool and hand embroidered. It depicts Charlottenburg Palace and was commissioned by Sophia Charlotte of Hanover. Another quilt I enjoyed was actually inlaid with a chessboard! Soldiers used it to play chess to keep themselves occupied in downtime during long wars. All in all, although some might think a quilt museum is strange but it is so interesting and fun! Their shop helps provide for the museum and I bought a really cute handmade blue elephant keychain for my mother! Ellis bought three pretty outdated weird books for $6 each and I really don’t know why. All in all this was an experience I’ll definitely remember, especially because of how awful and cringy our photo turned out! Also because I had no idea there was a museum for quilts. You really do learn something new everyday.

Accounting Society

I went to the Accounting Society last Thursday for the general interest meeting. It was a very informative presentation. The senior members did a really good job of outlining the opportunities and advantages they offer. We played an icebreaker game with teams of 4-5 people where we had to see a super close up of a picture and guess what the picture was. The results were very surprising and it was a very fun and bonding experience. We were informed about the requirement to be inducted and what kinds of events were there to participate in. We were also told about the committees and leadership opportunities and allowed to sign up for them.

I personally chose to try to apply to the planning committee and external affairs committee. Hopefully I can get into one. It would be so cool to really get involved. This club is an amazing opportunity for people hoping to get introduced and connected to the accounting industry and has opportunities for all kinds of professional development and education. There is also a lot of philanthropic events that were explained to us and we were told about the rsvp rules for some of the more exclusive events. I am very excited to participate in this club and I’ve already signed up to volunteer at a bake sale! I hope to have many fun and enriching experiences in this club.
