Freshman Seminar Fall 17 FWB

Major and Minors fair

For my last Blog post i went to the majors and minors fair. I am not really sure what i want to graduate on so i thought that going to this fair might be helpful.  I learned some new things that were kind of interesting at the fair. The Marxe school offers a major that i could see myself taking but they require a lot of math so that was a no go. I also saw some minors that looked fun. I love movies and i think i want to minor in film and the person that i spoke to at the both was very convincing. I also got to meet the mascot and he/she was a lot shorter than i thought he would be. I guess he/she took more after the cat side of his/her family.

Blog post #2

For my second enrichment workshop i went to the museum of natural history. We were required to go there by our anthropology teacher, and we had to look at the hall of human origins. We had to come up with a quiz that asked questions pertaining the museum. Though it was a requirement to be there it was also a lot of fun. I had been to the museum before but i always forget just how big and fascinating it is. It seems that every time i go there, there are some new things to learn about. The hall of human origins was also a lot of fun. There were some cool interactive displays that showed the growth of the human population and some that told us how primates communicated. I also got to learn a lot of cool stuff about our ancient ancestors and the story of humans got to here. I learned things like there is only one hominid today and that is just us, the homo sapiens, i learned that the first stone tools popped up around 2.5 million years ago, though they were just sharp edged rocks they signaled that the basics of technological thought were beginning. There was also the RAP robot which creates original paintings using random decisions and responses to the environment. The visit was quite a bit of fun and was a good break from the day to day of rise and grind. For people who live in New York the museums have become this place where only tourists go, but i think more people should go these museum since they are pretty cool. We take these things for granted and completely forget just how incredible some of the museums we have are.  The museum was very interesting  and in many ways, helpful.

Fro Blog Post

For my first enrichment workshop i joined a club. I joined the e-sports club because it seems pretty cool to play video games with other people on school time. The club looked pretty awesome and i got to meet a lot of new people who enjoyed the same games that i do. There was some confusion on where and when we meet but those issues will probably be ironed out since that was the just a general interest meeting. I also really liked that they split us into casual and competitive. I like playing games for fun and dont really care the competitiveness aspect of it. It was good but then it became great when the coke and the pizza showed up. A bunch of us I really enjoyed talking to people about video games, eating pizza, and just hanging out with people that have the same interests as me. It was also really cool to meet some talented cs:go players. The Baruch cs:go team won ten thousand dollars on a cs:go tournament and a lot of that team graduated so they are looking for more players. Luckily there are still some really good players in the club and i hope i can learn from them and get better at the game. I also want to learn to play some new games that they have. They had Overwatch, Hearthstone, and many other games that i want to play and get good at. The leadership of the club was also really funny and interesting. They kept the meeting fun and were very helpful if we had any questions. We also got to meet some new people that had some cool insights into the game and they told me some pretty cool things about some of my favorite games that i didnt know.
