Last Thursday me, Nick Valeriano and Nick Carino all went to the writing workshop to have a paper we were working on as a group. It was a paper that had to be 6-8 pages in length and the topic of the paper was to write about an observation we made while reading the book everybody comes to ricks and its film adaptation Casablanca. We wanted to go to the writing center because we were not sure how to connect all three of our short papers into one 6-8 page paper. We sat down with one of the writing advisors and she was very helpful and was able to show a few tricks on how to connect the three smaller papers. Not only did she help us with connecting the three smaller papers but she also pointed out some minor grammatical errors that we had in the papers. She also showed us where we could expand upon some of our ideas. This helped us meet the quota of 6-8 pages that was set by our professor. I thought that the writing center was extremely helpful and showed us what we needed to do in order to improve our paper to the level which it should be. If I had the chance to go again I most definitely would, the writing center and the people who worked there were very helpful. The writing center was definitely one of the most helpful resources I have used yet at Baruch.

Baseball Scrimmage

On September 29th the baseball team had its first intersquad game of the fall. The game took place at Randall’s island and started at 1 o’clock. We played a 12 inning game that lasted until about 5 o’clock. It was a very fun experience to finally get out of the basketball gym where the previous practices had been held and get back onto a real baseball field with my new teammates we arrived to the field via a team bus at 12 and went through our warmup routine for about 45 minutes and then headed towards the coaches to what the teams would be. After receiving what team we were on we went to our respective dugouts and took the field for the game. The main point of the game was to get all the pitchers into the game and throw against live hitters one more time before the fall season ended and evaluate where the team stood as far as line up choices and which kids trying out for the team would be taken. This led to an extremely long and drawn out game that went ten inning in order to accommodate all the pitchers who wanted to throw or the coaches wanted to see throw. While the scrimmage was not quite a game environment it was just nice to be out on the field building chemistry with my new teammates. I think the scrimmage was very helpful to the team in a few ways. One way being getting used to playing with new teammates, getting to know those teammates better and getting some practice in a situation as close to a real game as you can get without playing in one.

9/11 Memorial Museum

I went to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum last Monday, September 11th. I thought it would be a very nice way to remember the tragic events that happened on September 11th, 2001. I had been to the memorial and museum before but I had never gone on the day those tragic events happened. The whole area around the One World Trade Center looks incredible from the futuristic looking mall to the two fountains with the names of all those that lost their lives on that day. the new trade center is an amazing building and has some of the best design in the whole city. The two fountains are where the two towers used to stand. the size of the fountains show you just how easily anything can be taken away. if something as big as a tower can be taken it makes you think about how fragile life really is. The two beams of light that the city shines into the night sky also adds a very nice element to the night and helps you reflect on everything that happened. My favorite part of the memorial and museum was the firehouse across the street was singing patriotic songs such as “God Bless America” which showed how while the country may seem divided right now we have and can come together when we need to. I thought that the 9/11 museum was also an amazing experience. it was able to educate you on the events that happened not just in New York but also in Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. but at the same time, it still kept the feel of a memorial and not just a museum. The City did an amazing job putting together this memorial and museum and museum and I am very happy I decided to go on September 11th, I believe that made the experience that much better.
