This afternoon I went to a drafting workshop at the Baruch Writing Center on the 8th floor, where we, with the instructor, discussed drafting skills and strategies, especially being that I normally struggle with writing drafts for essays and papers this workshop helped me think about how to work on those skills and ideas on how to draft, as well as think about that in most situations, I would be the only one to see the draft. This workshop was a great opportunity to develop my early essay writing and drafting skills. The workshop instructor not only made helping us learn better drafting skills infotmative, but also fun, he made many little jokes and relatable statements about writing. He gave us 7 tips for writing drafts.
1. Write for yourself, rather than think about what a reader will say about it, write for yourself, you can make mistakes and make it messy, you can always fix it later.
2. Set a timer, give yourself a set amount of time, and just keep on writing without stopping until you’re done.
3. Write in lists, take notes, put up bullet points to gather what you want to write about, and use those lists to put together your main ideas.
4. Start with the easiest part first, you don’t have to start from the beginning, you can work from the middle out, and structure it later.
5. Freewrite, just write what’s on your mind, don’t restrict your writing, just write, you can change what you wrote later.
6. Write from memory, don’t look at notes or textbook pages, just write what you think was right, and you can always revist it later.
7. Start with a key term, use a key term from your assignment and work around it, make your writing based on what you can come up with based on that term.
This workshop took place on September 12th in NVC room 8-190
