Freshman Seminar Fall 17 LC04

Moran, Alejandro- Starr Career Development Center

Today I went to the Starr Career Development Center and wow do they have a lot of helpful things to offer. They are a great tool for learning about workshops, internships, jobs, mentoring, and information sessions. Apart from those helpful resources, they also offer mock interviews and assistance with one’s resume, which are two things that are really useful when trying to land a job or internship.

I have not tried any of their services yet but I will in the near future after I update my resume. I definitely feel more at ease and confident knowing that the SCDC offers these service to all Baruch students who seek help with career services. One can either make an appointment or visit their office during walk-in hours. I recommend giving them a visit if your having trouble with any career related issues. They are friendly people and will be glad to help you.

Moran, Alejandro- Pre-Calculus Tutoring

I recently attended an after-school tutoring session for my Pre-Calculus class. I have an upcoming test in a few days and I figured it wouldn’t hurt to get some extra help. This session helped me get clarification on the topics I was still confused about. Sometimes, it is difficult to keep up in class, taking notes and listening to the professor, and so it becomes difficult to grasp on to certain topics. This session allowed me the freedom to ask the professor any questions I had on previous topics we had finished in class.

I would definitely recommend these tutoring sessions to anyone who feels like they’re not keeping up in class. The sessions are about an hour long and they truly are helpful. You don’t have to worry about holding the class’ time up and you can also easily communicate with the professor during these sessions. I definitely look forward to any future tutoring sessions because I know that they will only benefit me.

Moran, Alejandro – TSO

Today I found out about the Transfer Student Organization (TSO). They dedicate themselves to helping out freshmen and transfer students who need some guidance when beginning college.

It’s not easy for freshmen and transfer students to become familiar with Baruch College right away and so this is where TSO comes in and helps. They help students who need assistance with their resume, interview skills, and answer any troubling questions in general. They have a mentorship program where they have mentors help students who need assistance. They host fun events like Rooftop parties, pumpkin picking, picnics, hikes, and much more! They’re a very diverse club and when I hung out with them, I sensed a good feeling of community between them. They all seemed glad to be a part of TSO.

I am definitely interested in this club and look forward to attending their general interest meeting. It will be a good place to begin networking and meet new people.
