Freshman Seminar Fall 17 LC04

Career Fair With My Son Semir

Me and my son Semir were anxious and eager to play basketball down in the gymnasium. We really cherish playing basketball in the world renowned Baruch College basketball courts because whenever we do play, it only lasts for about 10 to 15 minutes. Anyways, there was no basketball but their was huge crowds of people everywhere. I was overwhelmed with curiosity  and wanted to find out what was the cause of all this commotion. When I first saw all these important looking people, I got scared. Not scared as in the way that I feared them, but in the sense that I didn’t know how to approach them. But seeing others from my class and grade really gave me confidence in approaching these important figures. I spoke to different representatives and different companies. The more I talked, the more confident I became. I was excited to be able to learn things about different aspects of the fields in finance, accounting, and computer informational systems. If theres one key lesson I took away from this experience, it was that networking is the most vital and essential part in getting out there and preparing yourself for a bright and steady future. I recommend this career fair to all freshmen. Its a great way to expand their knowledge and sharpen their networking skill set. You never know, it help you choose a career path which will define the rest of your life

Sabha Says…

My heart was racing, my head was pounding, and I could just feel the sensation of stress and anxiety flowing through my veins. I knew I had to do something which was efficient and ultimately beneficial to my academic studies. This is when I decided that I had to take initiative. I attended the extra help workshop held by Professor Mohammed Sabha for Pre-Calculus. With the first test coming up for the course, I just didn’t know what to expect. During the workshop, all of my questions were answered. We went over functions, graphing equations and depreciation- topics we had learned during the sections of the course material. I even found out that there were sample tests and review sheets online which could help me prepare better for the exam. I would recommend going to these extra help sessions to anyone who seeks help to better understand the material. The professor will help you get a better grasp on the subject in an environment where everyone feels comfortable and welcome.

Noeshare, Syed – TSO (Student Life)

I was taking a nice stroll on the 3rd floor with some friends when I saw something at the corner of my eye. It wasn’t a bird, a plane, nor was it Superman, but it was the TSO. An organization that helps transfer students assimilate into the Baruch student population, but more so with those students that share similar interests and similar goals for their future academic achievements.

In addition, the TSO helps their own club members explore and venture throughout the other clubs Baruch College has to offer. This helps with communicating with others and getting past the phobia of opening up and speaking to others. In conclusion, the TSO has much to offer, but clearly emphasizes one significantly vital concept. That concept is networking. Networking will allow each and every one of us to have connections throughout the world, possibly resulting in an abundance of accomplishments and success in our endeavors.
