Since the art teacher is always telling us to go to the MET and check out pieces of artwork that we are learning about in class, I decided to go take a look. The pieces of artwork were really nice however I came across the painting “Naked Man” by Lucian Freud, and it was being recreated by an artist, which I found interesting and random because I didn’t know people can do this at a museum. I told her that her recreation looks exactly like the original painting, and she looked at me like I was crazy, she then told me that her painting was her version of how she saw the subject. In the image (I wasn’t able to get a better angle) you can see that her shades are a little different versus the original painting, and that might be what she meant when she said that she wanted to recreate the image in the way that she saw the subject. This was an interesting trip to the MET because of my art history class in my first semester of Baruch, Professor Levin is always showing us recreation of pieces of art work done either in their version of how they interpret the piece, or to sometimes mock the piece of art work/ artist.
