Me and my friend Ji Na went to Baruch Performing Arts Center’s play called “Arden/ Everywhere the “As You like It “Project” directed and produced by Jessica Bauman on October 19. The main concept of this play is to connect people with refugees. What I like about this show is that before entering the theater, there is someone who will be handing out playbills with a synopsis inside. “Arden Everywhere” is adapted with Shakespeare language so it might be hard to understand, but if you follow along with the synopsis you will have a better understanding of what is going on in front of you. I also really enjoyed the music. Sometimes when I lose focus on the play, the music rivets my attention. When the song and music is soft, I felt calm and relaxed. When the music and song is upbeat, I felt my heart pounding, feet tapping, or mentally clapping with the song. I have a few favorites cast members. Actress Helen Cespedes who plays Rosalind and Liba Vaynberg who plays Rosalind’s cousin Celia did amazing in the show. The audiences can feel the deep connection between the two characters. They were close and touchy, we can felt the intimacy. On the side note, I was really cold in the theater. Not sure if that’s the intention of the play because the story is happening in the winter or was it just because of the ac of the building on high.

On Tuesday September 12, I attended one of the school’s Starr Career Development Center Workshop. The workshop I went to was the “Fall 2017 Undergrad Career day – Prep workshop.” When we entered the supervisor had us sign in with our names and empid. I saw that many of the people who were already seated looked like they were upperclassmen. Me and my friends were probably the only freshmans there. After being seated the workshop started. There was a supervisor and four current Baruch students that gave us the presentation. The supervisor didn’t do much talking , the four Baruch students basically did all of it. I learned many things from the workshop. One thing that I learned is that before a career fair we should prepare a 30 second – 2 minute long personal pitch. A personal pitch shows the employer who you are, what your greatest strength is, and what you can bring to the company. Another thing I learned, is that during the career fair always ask for their business cards so you can send a “thank you” email and other follow up emails. When the workshop ended we went to speak with the supervisor, I wanted to ask him more about the career fair. He said that many companies now are hiring freshman interns for internships. On September 02, 2017, me and family went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art or also known as “ The Met”. First we sat on the famous Met steps and enjoyed the view. Then we entered the museum and purchased our tickets. The first exhibit we saw was the Asian Art exhibit. There, we saw different type of porcelains which are white Chinese vitrified translucent ceramic, statues of Buddhas , steel weaponries that was once use during Chinese warfare , and many more. My favorite part of the Asian Art was The Astor Chinese Garden Court. Upon entering the garden there are two lion statues on each side of the entrance. When I enter I felt so stress free. The atmosphere was just so gentle and relaxing. In the garden was Taihu rocks, granite terrace, and ceramic tile flooring like the once you see in China and on TV. You feel like you’re in China when standing in it.
After the Asian Art we went to the Egyptian Art. There we saw tombstones, hieroglyphics on walls, statues of Egyptian people , replica of the Sphinx , and The Temple of Dendur. This trip to the museum further educated me on the history of Asia and Egypt. I learned that the Egyptians believed in many gods and goddesses and like to respect them by engraving them onto their temples and walls. Another thing I learned was that the female pharaoh Hatshepsut was also portrayed as a sphinx. I use to thought that only males were allowed to be represented on a sphinx. My experience in this museum is great and I would definitely come back again to look at more exhibits and learn more history.
