For my third and last blog post I went to the starr career center. The starr career center is located in the second floor of the Newman vertical campus for those who don’t know. I went there to get help in making my resume. Making my resume is hard because I feel like I haven’t done much yet. I graduated a year early and have not interned or worked anywhere yet so I didn’t know what to put on my resume. Also it being our first semester I don’t have a gpa to put into my resume either.
At the starr career center I talked to one of the workers at the front desk. I felt bad because I felt like I was wasting his time. I didn’t really know what to ask him since I didn’t even have a draft resume. After some frustration he finally just gave me a resume pamphlet.
In the resume pamphlet I learned the basic rules of a resume such as it being one page, font size being between 10 and 12 and margins being from ½ inch to 1 inch adjusted to make your information fit neatly. I also learned recruiters spend on average 5 to 7 seconds looking at resumes. Also that 76% percent of resumes are discarded for unprofessional email addresses, spelling error and/or poor formatting. The pamphlet goes in depth into basically every part of the resume i need to know and previously did not. Again it shows what sections your resume should be divided into and also what not to include in your resume. All in all the pamphlet basically is 30 pages of what exactly i should and should not do in my resume which will be extremely helpful when i apply for internships in the future.

Academic Blog Post
For my second blog post (academic) I will be talking about my time at the SACC. I went to the SACC twice on the 18th of October. I went to the SACC for help in MTH 2003. I actually consider myself an above average student in the class but there was one question on my math lab that I couldn’t figure out. I went through multiple examples but still couldn’t figure it out. That’s when I decided I’m going to need some extra help on the question.
My first session at the SACC was from 11-12 right before my English class. I usually don’t get to school before 12:20 on Wednesdays so I was tired at the session. On top of that I was asleep during the train so my tiredness carried on to the session. I showed my instructor the question but she could not use the same numbers as MML (mymathlab) which I think is dumb if it’s only for one question. After twenty minutes of her trying to explain in different ways and me still not giving she decided it was best that we move on to the next question. For the rest of the session I finished the homework (2.2) that I could have easily finished without her. After the session and right before my English class i signed up for another session 5 minutes after my math class ended because I knew I had to answer that one question or it was going to bother me until I did.
At my second session I had an instructor who taught better than my actual teacher. He explained the question so organized in his whiteboard that i just followed the same steps in my question. I got the question right after probably like twenty previous attempts my first time in this session. It may have been that I wasn’t as tired in this session than I was in my first but this instructor’s explanation was definitely more clear to me. For the rest of the session I started my next homework (2.3) and asked him any questions that I had. My experience at the SACC was overall a good time where I got a lot of work done. The most important thing I learned for the future is to pick the right instructor.

Fitness Center
For my student life blog, I went to the fitness center. I went during my break for club hours. Usually during these hours I would be studying and doing homework. At first I thought 3(three) hours would be way too much to myself, but now I don’t think it’s enough. When one math homework takes 2(two) hours then it turns out that I don’t have any time to myself. Even at home I spend most of my time doing school work so as of recent I haven’t had the time to go to the gym. So when going to they gym could be used as assignment, I was really excited. I went to the Baruch Fitness center obviously in the basement of the Newman Vertical campus. I got there by taking the bus to the train station(Q43). The trains I took to get here where the F to the E to the 6. As I said before I went during my break which started at 12:00. At first I thought I had to move my bag around as I changed from machine to machine like I did by the gym at my home. I was surprised to see that I could rent out a locker, something I will definitely take advantage of in the future. The gym itself isn’t that great. It has a couple more machines than my local Y but the dumbbells and free weight were extremely worn out. I haven’t been to the gym in weeks so it didn’t really matter what muscle group I focused on so I worked out my favorite muscles, Chest and Triceps. First I warmed up my shoulders and then went straight to the bench press. This is where problems arose, I wanted to have the best workout possible but at the same I didn’t want to hurt myself. This is where I had to fight my nerves and ask someone else to spot me. At my local gym there’s always workers/friends to spot me so asking someone I didn’t know is something I haven’t done in years. The person I asked was really nice and complimented my form. Still I didn’t want to bother him too much so I only did 2(two)sets where he spotted me. I moved on to incline bench press where I didn’t go to heavy because I was tired, as I didn’t work out in a while. Than as my usual routine I went on to dumbbell presses. I usually start with 40s as I’m already warmed up and I move my way up to 55s. Since I’ve started college I’ve been eating really unhealthy so it shouldn’t surprise me that I couldn’t get up to 55s but it did. It was one of the most depressing feelings you can get when you can’t get a weight up you could before. The same person who spotted me told me I’d get there eventually and actually would have been able to lift the weight if I didn’t bench before. It was pretty comforting since I knew it was only because I just got back into working out. This activity really motivated to continue going to the gym and make time for it. I know it’s hard but he told me it’s all about time management and 100% doable. Since I went I’ve been going to my local gym and making a conscious effort to eat clean.
