Freshman Seminar Fall 17 LC09

Fitness Center

For my student life blog, I went to the fitness center. I went during my break for club hours. Usually during these hours I would be studying and doing homework. At first I thought 3(three) hours would be way too much to myself, but now I don’t think it’s enough. When one math homework takes 2(two) hours then it turns out that I don’t have any time to myself. Even at home I spend most of my time doing school work so as of recent I haven’t had the time to go to the gym. So when going to they gym could be used as assignment, I was really excited. I went to the Baruch Fitness center obviously in the basement of the Newman Vertical campus. I got there by taking the bus to the train station(Q43). The trains I took to get here where the F to the E to the 6. As I said before I went during my break which started at 12:00. At first I thought I had to move my bag around as I changed from machine to machine like I did by the gym at my home. I was surprised to see that I could rent out a locker, something I will definitely take advantage of in the future. The gym itself isn’t that great. It has a couple more machines than my local Y but the dumbbells and free weight were extremely worn out. I haven’t been to the gym in weeks so it didn’t really matter what muscle group I focused on so I worked out my favorite muscles, Chest and Triceps. First I warmed up my shoulders and then went straight to the bench press. This is where problems arose, I wanted to have the best workout possible but at the same I didn’t want to hurt myself. This is where I had to fight my nerves and ask someone else to spot me. At my local gym there’s always workers/friends to spot me so asking someone I didn’t know is something I haven’t done in years. The person I asked was really nice and complimented my form. Still I didn’t want to bother him too much so I only did 2(two)sets where he spotted me. I moved on to incline bench press where I didn’t go to heavy because I was tired, as I didn’t work out in a while. Than as my usual routine I went on to dumbbell presses. I usually start with 40s as I’m already warmed up and I move my way up to 55s. Since I’ve started college I’ve been eating really unhealthy so it shouldn’t surprise me that I couldn’t get up to 55s but it did. It was one of the most depressing feelings you can get when you can’t get a weight up you could before. The same person who spotted me told me I’d get there eventually and actually would have been able to lift the weight if I didn’t bench before. It was pretty comforting since I knew it was only because I just got back into working out. This activity really motivated to continue going to the gym and make time for it. I know it’s hard but he told me it’s all about time management and 100% doable. Since I went I’ve been going to my local gym and making a conscious effort to eat clean.
