Career Workshop

The deadline for the career blog post was approaching so my friends and I decided to just hit up a random workshop during Thursday’s club hours. I went to a general workshop about internships and learned about how to best present yourself in front of employers. I walked in expecting the workshop staffs to feed us information that was already familiar to us, but surprisingly I learned a lot more about acquiring an internship than I expected to. They had very detailed PowerPoints that identify the key qualities that we should have when we are looking for an internship. On one of the PowerPoints, it listed out the ideal qualities that employers look for when they are searching for an intern or an employee. There were a lot of skill sets and qualities but I think the most important to develop team-working skills, communication skills, and leadership skills. I knew this information before coming to the workshop but I always thought it was hard for me to showcase these skills. The staffs from the career workshop gave us specific examples such as articulating your thoughts precisely during an interview. Don’t rush what you have to say and be confident when it comes to expressing your ideas. It was a very helpful experience and I’ll definitely apply the skills I learned next time when I’m looking for an internship.
