Last Wednesday I went to a career workshop called “Small Talk: It’s a Big Deal”. I went with Sahil, David, Jarrett, and Moataz. In the workshop the presenter from STARR Career Center went over the importance of small talk as well as ways to initiate a small talk. The presenter also went over what are good methods to keep up an initiated talk. There were demonstrations done by the staff from the STARR Career Center, although the presenter only told the group that there were more staff members present after the demonstrations so it felt really scripted. I chose the workshop only because it worked very well with my schedule. Those that went to the workshop were given a packet regarding small talk and inside sums up what went on in the workshop as well as sections that were not covered in the workshop, it’s a very good reference.Overall, the workshop was very engaging and I learned about the importance of small talk.

I went to the Museum of Public Relations with Sahil, which is located in the Baruch library, 5th floor. The museum isn’t large but it does contain a lot of interesting objects. Such as a a cigarette box from the brand that a man, I forget the name, that protested by having women smoke out in public which was considered a taboo at the time. there were also various book from a different man’s library. Interestingly there was a Japanese book on the shelf which is interesting because all the books on the shelf are all in English but that one book. The Japanese book also stood
out because that was the only white book on the shelf it was on.There were many new articles in clear containers regarding protests and major events in communication. Aside from news articles and books there were also old instruments used for communication such as a typewriter.

During the club fair on Thursday I went to the FES interest meeting. During the meeting I was first given an introduction by the executive board and returning members of the club. I was also given an in depth explanation of the different sections of the club. There is the investment section where those who are set on being in the investment field. There are more sections in the club. There is the membership program where students, usually freshmen and sophomores, go to if they do not know what part of business/ finance they want to be in. After all the introductions the students in the meeting got into groups of ten and attempted to make the largest tower using ten sticks of pasta, a marshmallow and lastly teamwork. Although my team and I did not make the tallest tower we did collaborate and made the tallest tower we could.
