For this academic blog post, I decided to go to the Museum of Modern Art. I like art, so I figured it would be fun to go to an art museum for an academic post. My 2 favorite artist are Vincent van Gogh and Pablo Picasso, so I knew I wanted to find artwork from them. I went to the 5th floor of the museum and found a piece from Picasso, called “Harlequin”. Before I found out Picasso made this piece, I knew he had to be the artist behind it because it had interesting shapes combined into a picture, with no recognizable image. Another piece I found at MoMA was van Gogh’s “Starry Night”. “Starry Night” became my favorite piece of artwork when I was in the first grade learning about van Gogh, and it still remains my favorite until this day. Overall, MoMA was a nice, quite, relaxing experience, and it was nice to have a break from college stress and enjoy looking at art.

FRO Blog Post #2- Career
For this blog post, I decided to go to a Starr career event and attended the Target Interview prep workshop on Tuesday, October 3rd. In this workshop, I learned many helpful tips and preparations to help get ready for an interview and make the best impression to employers. I learned simple tips on how to make a good first impression: I learned to always make eye contact as you are talking with the employer, learned to not look nervous, but to appear confident, learned to make yourself sound interesting by adding excitement to your tone of voice, and more. I also learned that after an interview, it is great to keep in touch with the employer by thanking them for their time via email and to follow up with the employer to show that you are interested in the job. I also learned that it is important to do research on the company you want to work for before an interview so you have prior knowledge about the company and its purpose. I used to think that interviews were only to find out why you want to work or why you want a certain position, but I walked away from this workshop learning that interviews have only a little to do with why you want a job, but are meant to learn more about who you are and try to get the employer to connect with you on a personal level.
FRO Blog Post #1: Student Life
For the first FRO blog post, I decided to go to a student life event. I went to the Latino Heritage Month Opening Ceremony in the 2nd floor lobby on Thursday, September 7th. It was interesting and fun to attend, and it was great to learn a little about Hispanic Heritage. The DJ was fun and played awesome Spanish music that got everyone dancing, and he even played some songs that I loved and were familiar with. I even learned that our school has a newspaper called “The Ticker”, and I considered joining it, until I then I remembered that I’m a horrible writer and I don’t like to write, so it’s not for me. There was also some Spanish food that looked really good, but I was full from eating lunch so I decided not to eat anything. The downside to this event was that there were so many people crowded in the lobby and many of them were on top of me which I then started to feel uncomfortable and claustrophobic. Hopefully the next event won’t make me feel as claustrophobic as this one so I can enjoy the event more.
