Crashed! GetCoveredIllinois.gov

According to the article, “Law Turns to Social Media In Illinois,” the state of Illinois recently launched its new website known as GetCoveredIllinois.gov. However, just like healthcare.gov, Illinois’ site crashed because the website did not have the capacity for the number of people on it. In addition to the site, Illinois is currently preparing a $33 million ad campaign in order to increase awareness. The $33 million all comes from grants from the federal government. The media expertise team is working on responding and helping out consumers with questions on Twitter and Facebook. Although the followers and “likes” are small as of now, it is picking up interest and more and more people are taking notice.
I thought that this article was quite interesting because it demonstrates how our government is keeping up with modern technology in order to make sure people stay updated with current policies and issues in society. Of course there are slight kinks and faults in a newly developed site, but it is a major step for modern politics and media. As new technology and forms of communication keep evolving, so will everything else follow suit.
