Blog Post #3 Student Life

On Thursday afternoon here at Baruch in the multipurpose room the school hosted “Baruch Voices.” It was a great experience for me to get to know my fellow students better. I got to take a peek into the lives of many Baruch students. I particularly liked Vanessa’s presentation. It was a great experience to bond with my classmates on a more personal level. These events that Baruch hosts are really useful sometimes for students willing to be submerged in student life. Freshman seminar has offered me a lot of opportunities to grow as a freshman and to learn all of the essential things needed to succeed here at Baruch. I’m happy that Freshman Seminar is coming to an end but I’m also upset that I won’t be in such a relaxed environment with my fellow freshmen ever again at Baruch. Ending the course with the memory of Baruch Voices fresh in my mind is a great way to put an end to something very great. Once again Vanessa’s presentation was great!!

Writing center

As you all may know, Baruch college has many individual institutions in place specifically designated to help students with whatever it is they need. One of these is the writing center at Baruch where you can set an appointment and be offered help for whatever writing or speech assignment you may have from well educated mentors. Recently I had gone to the writing center for help with my English 2100 class. I was tasked to write a short 4 page comparison paper in which i’d have to choose a controversial topic in society and compare two sides. I had no idea what I was going to write my paper on and I recall a man coming into our class to tell us about he writing center and I decided to do it. I went to a brainstorming session and to be honest I didn’t expect it to be very helpful at first due to my natural skeptic state of mind. With all things considered, the meeting was incredibly helpful and it put me on the right track to write my comparison paper on a topic that is very interesting to me. I won’t state the topic due to the fact that fellow classmates might want to steal my idea and I’m not having that. I was really impressed with the knowledge of these mentors and now I know that if I ever do need actual help with work I can rely on Baruch’s many facilities to get my work done.

CAREER

Last week i attended a really cool event led Alpha Kappa Psi and provided by GA or General Assembly about the intro to the NYC startup scene. This event really gave me a lot of cool insight on exactly what start ups are and how they work. Many of the things we see in our daily lives today started out as start up companies and that gives me a lot of hope in my entrepreneurial future and career. Unlike this site, one of the most popular blogging sites ever, Tumblr, was a start up. I’ve always been interested in creating something of my own including but not limited to a business or a website and this event helped me stay on track with my goals. It was a great career building event and i learned a lot that i’ll one day use in my professional future to aid in my success. Baruch has a lot to offer in terms of broadening your business and professional repertoire. The intro to The NYC startup scene event was definitely a learning experience for me and I’m looking forward to going to more and more career and academic events at Baruch.
