Blog Post #3: Career

On Thursday, 7 th  April, I attended a ‘‘writing winning resume” workshop by Starr career center. It was very helpful as it told me about the various steps involved in making a resume and the major components of the Resume. The resume which are preferred by companies are those which have a organized form, which use bullets and has readable fonts(sizes should be either 10 or 12, no smaller than them). The comic san font is a big no. The use of power words is very Important(such as analyzed, collaborated, contributed, etc.), it impresses the companies. The resumes should use a lot of numbers and industry jargon, to make their resumes impressive. The resumes should be no longer than 1 page. If the resumes are not organized then they will be thrown into trash. This workshop was very helpful as it helped me understand the things recruiters take into consideration and what separates a good resume from a bad resume. I recommend this workshop to everyone as it will help in making successful resumes for internships and jobs.

On Thursday,17th march,in the club hours,I went to the Sidney Mishkin Gallery.Initially I couldn’t find the gallery and finally when I did it was a small place with a few people. The gallery had  good (vibrant and colorful) paintings and a quiet atmosphere. The painting which I liked the most was Scenario Thinking by Ellen K Levy and Patricia Olynyk. I liked the painting because it used vibrant colors and it was the only painting I understood completely. The gallery also had a video section in which a 4 minute video about the paintings was being showed(I didn’t see it).The gallery is a good opportunity for those who are interested in art.As I am not exactly an art lover it was difficult for me to understand the message conveyed by the paintings.I think the variety  of artists should also be increased as the works of only two or three artists were displayed. But overall it was a good experience and people who are interested in art should definitely take a look at it.

Blog Post #1-Student life

The music was loud, the gym was filled with people and the place was buzzing with energy. This was how ”Candy land” looked like.I went to my first event in Baruch on 02/04/16,” The Winter Carnival-Candyland” in the gym.The place was filled with attractions and enthusiastic peers. There were stalls giving different types of candies, candyfloss and popcorn(I ate everything!!).There were many games for people who wished to bounce , jump, climb and fall.Caricature Artists were also present but the line was very long. There was also a smoothie counter which gave different flavored smoothies like banana strawberry, etc(the taste was weird).Lots of people from different clubs were also present to convince people to join their clubs. There was also a photographer who was clicking group photos. It was a great chance to interact with our peers and enjoy with our friends. But I just wished there were more caricature artists, so the line won’t have been so long(I have heard they were very good!!)and more games to play which didn’t only involve jumping, climbing, etc. But in all I enjoyed my first event in Baruch,”CANDYLAND”.
