Blog Post #3: Career

For my third and final enrichment workshop, I attended Baruch Voices in the multi-purpose room in NVC. I used this event to fulfill the career aspect of the course and honestly, it was a pretty easy task. First things first, the only reason that I attended was because I needed to write this blog post or else I would’ve failed the course. Secondly, I wanted to support two of my friends. However, that monologue about Pokémon and his relationship with Pok-é-mon caught me so off guard. For one thing, it was 15 minutes long (yes, I know I’m exaggerating but let’s be real), it was supposed to be a three minute MAXIMUM limit! Like I was all for hearing his personal saga about Pokémon but I wasn’t mentally ready for the journey itself.  Look, we are not a heartless people and we’re all for being positive and uplifting, however when you try to cash in on that positive attitude by reciting a 15 minute long manifesto about Pikachu, I have no other choice but to go on a rant. I am only human. Putting that aside, there were some fairly touching monologues, speeches and some hot fire being spat on that stage. But one thing was made clear on this day, that our freshmen seminar class ain’t shit and will never be shit for as long as we live. We didn’t even cheer when given an on-stage shout out! Anyways, it’s been real guys. *mic drop*
