Blog Post #2: Academic

The Sidney Mishkin Gallery was an interesting gallery. Although it only took several minutes to traverse all the exhibitions i found myself drawn to a couple of the works. Migrations 2015 by Ellen K. Levy reminded me of an acid trip. The strokes were very fine and the design really shrines through. It wasnt after staring at the picture for a solid 3 minutes that i saw the cars in the background, i was too distracted by the other colors to notice. I also really enjoyed the picture i stood infront of in my picture. The idea and concept were pretty cool. I think it has a deeper meaning that i have yet to see. There were some pieces i quite didn’t enjoy as much as the others. Some of the sculptures and paintings were pretty average and dissonant. They lacked the luster to really pop and i found they came up kinda flat. Overall it was a really educating experience. It showed me the broad spectrum of whats considered art by most people and it changed my ideas on what i consider art.
