Baruch Voice

Baruch Voices is the last event we took part in. It is amazing to see some of our classmates on stage and I would say they did an amazing job. I’m kind of surprised but the number of people participating. However, I think the main point of the event is to keep the so-called Baruch spirit. It can be done through many forms and this is just one of them. The Voice allowed students to have their viewpoints expressed, and I think it is very important.

It is so sad that we are coming to the end of the session. I am pretty sure that we will miss everyone and everything in the class. Somehow we might not remember what happened or was taught in class (Sorry Dominique and Magi) but I’m sure everyone will miss each other’s presence. Maybe there will be a nod or a hello in the future when we see each other in the hallways, but the memories will stay.

I want to take this chance to say Thank You to everyone. I appreciated everyone’s company and presence which helped me being me here in this foreign place. I just want to say, Thank you and I love you all!!

Monologue

Voices.
In my head,
There are so many voices
There is me
yesterday
There is me
tomorrow
There is me
today
The future wants the present to work hard
The present blames the past
Vicious cycle
Then there is a group of people,
distant relatives
judging everything
from school to marriage to work
Everyone talks
Every decision feels like the wrong one
There is no way out
So I ran away
here
I think I escaped
but no
I jumped from one hell to another
Sometimes I confused
Sometimes I just couldn't find my own voice
in midst of this chaos
I couldn't find myself
so am I
me?

Suit Up

As Baruch College is a famous school for business (Zicklin School of Business) in this area, many of us are in here aiming for the business program or already in them. Being in the business program, it is very important to be dressed correctly. Even for those that are not in the business program, a proper business attire is important. For example, you cannot probably dress in jeans and T-shirts for a official business meeting or an interview. There must be at the very least one proper attire in your wardrobe for these official settings, especially for the men.

Suit Up is a program offered by the STARR career Development Centre to help those in need of cheap business attire. I went to check out the place today expecting the price to be about a hundred for a suit. To my surprise, it was much much much cheaper than what I thought it would be. The clothes are divided orderly into different sections. The men’s on the left and women’s on the right. There are even some pretty accessories in the middle of the room. The accessories looks brand new and they priced at a astonishing low price of like $2 or $5 each. The teachers and students in the room were also extra helpful when I have questions regarding the size or design.

Although I did not buy anything this time, it is really good to see that the college has such a program planned out for us. This is helpful for a lot of people. I even see a lot of male students trying on the different design of the suits to see which suits them best. There were a list of the different programs planned by the STARR Development Centre in the room. I cannot wait to see what is next. Everyone , SUIT UP.

VARK Quiz

IMG_9662

I believe this is the only post about the VARK quiz while everyone wrote about the “Candy Land” and “Dear White People” events. Although I missed both events, I believe they were really fun by the looks of the other posts.

I did the VARK quiz this weekend. It was not that bad. The questions were short and sweet. They mostly give you a situation or scenario and ask what you would do. I think the trick to the quiz is to give the first answer that came to your mind. As this is a form of personality test, the first thought usually reflects the sub-conscience of the mind better. If you think about the question too long, it might lose its purpose. The test gives you a score in visual, aural, read/write and kinesthetic aspect. Everyone should get a score, high or low, in all the areas. For me, I had the highest score of 9 in the kinesthetic aspect.

This exercise may look simple. However, it helps greatly when we are studying. By knowing how we learn best, we will be able to use the shortest time to learn the most. This is especially important during the first semester. The first semester is like the starting point of a race. When we are able to get a hang of these information at the very start, it will be so much easier for us along the way to graduation. For example, when I had the highest score in kinesthetic aspect, this means that I am able to learn best by “hands on” rather than observing or learning or writing. With this information, I will be able to learn or study for my classes easier.

I would recommend the others to do the same exercise as I believe that everyone is able to benefit from this.
