A Passionate Soul

They tell you to follow your dreams, but what does that really mean?

When you’re up against thousands of others wishing to pursue the very same thing.

This is not a game, not a gimmick, this is life and what entails in it

They don’t tell you how much it costs or how broke you’re going to be

They tell you aim for the goal, and hope to succeed

But… what happens if you don’t?

See, there once was a time I  knew who I was and knew who and what I wanted to be.

Ginelli.

The girl driven by passion, consumed by the thirst to fulfill it

Certain and proud

…I wish I can say that now

So many obstacles, just wishing it could all be easy.

Watching others get closer to their dreams, and feeling like the odds are increasing,

Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for them, I am,

but for me it’s only a matter of when.

They tell you to follow your dreams, but what does that really mean, when you’re forced to get a degree in something appealing less to your being. Just to make a salary that satisfies your means.

For me my passion and ability could have possibly lead me to achieve.

I was once on the right road, but now harder is the goal and greasier the road.

Want to be focused on my dream, but forced to be focused on another entity.

It’s so hard in this world for the passionate souls.

But you know what? I’ll get back up, I’ll brush myself off

I’ll put on my rubber boots because I will not fall. I will keep reaching for the goal. And one day I will be Ginelli, certain and proud once again.

The Vark Questionnaire!

Prior to attending Baruch, I had never heard of a Vark questionnaire before or “Vark quiz” for short. I was surprised that this sort of resource even existed. After hearing others discuss about it, I figured I would give the quiz a go and see what it was all about. I was completely under the impression that it would be a much more complex and serious quiz, but it was fairly short and sweet. The questionnaire provided scenarios in which, you had to choose the answer that best suited you. For the majority of the questions I selected 2 out of four of the choices provided. This let me know that I learn in more than just one way. I feel as though I’ve always been able to learn more visually as well as by carrying out physical activities myself, rather than solely listening to one speak. After the quiz, I found that my results confirmed what I had already presumed.

The following are my scores:

Visual: eight        Aural: seven   read/write: seven     Kinesthetic: ten                      IMG_6417

Both visual (eight) and kinesthetic (ten) were the highest scores out of the four. Based on the results, I found out that the way I learn through reading and writing and how I learn by hearing are both on the same level, as I scored a seven for each. I don’t necessarily think this quiz was a waste of time. I think it can be useful, especially  to those who want to discover which different ways of learning best works to their abilities. I also think that it is very important to understand how you learn, so that you can use that to your advantage academically. If I had known there were academic resources like the Vark quiz and more before, I would have probably taken it in high school.

Winter Carnival

As soon as I saw the posters advertising , I knew I had to go. The excitement began when I formed the line to enter the event (I know, I know because forming a line is super fun), but I was eager to experience my first college event with new friends. I was handed a waiver to sign and since I was of age, I was admitted with a blue wristband.  As soon as I walked into the event, I looked around taking notice of giant inflatables, and massive amounts of people standing on long lines. There were bouncy houses, arts and crafts, a smoothie station, cotton candy, popcorn, rock climbing, and of course a candy buffet to top it off for the candy land event. There was even a photo station set up where you can take silly photos with candy props. My friends and I, decided to try rock climbing because it seemed pretty bad-ass, however the line was way too long so we ditched that idea. I made sure I got to bounce away in the bouncy castle and load up on candy (and no I did not get a sugar rush). I also made sure to grab a couple smoothies and even got an illustration of my friends and I drawn.

So to be honest, after a little while of bouncing inside the bouncy house, (you know, getting in touch with my inner 7 year old),  I couldn’t help but feel a tiny bit embarrassed. The word ‘freshman’ probably read across my forehead as I jumped and laughed away. The whole scene of the Carnival deemed very kid-like to me. But, I wasn’t complaining because in reality I ‘m a huge kid at heart and I did in fact have fun.
