Candyland: My first college event

Coming into college I expected a lot of difference from high school, I guess I always looked at college as a simulation of the real world, and that high school was just a jail like institution imposed on me where I learned stuff I might never use in the world. I guess this was just an imagination I made up based on what I seen and learned from television, the media and just society in general. My first week of college I realized that most of these assumptions I had made about college was wrong. I guess in many ways college is really similar to high school, we still have grades, textbooks, homework and a lot of tests to determine our overall grade. What college offers us that is really different from high school is the opportunity to get involved and to diversify our selves. In college we must really take the initiative to join and do different things that may push us out of our comfort zone. College gives us a chance to redefines school, in short it is what we make it.
Unlike high school there are things and places for everyone, we just need to go out there and seek it, there are no more teachers chasing you around to make sure you do what you were supposed Anyway this takes me back to my first college event, the Candyland Carnival. The Candyland Carnival presented with such an opportunity to go out, hang out and meet new people even though it isn’t something I would normally do. Going to Candyland I felt a bit nervous not knowing what to expect, and the fact that I was going there alone. As soon as I got to the event I realized that this wasn’t scary after all. As soon as I came in  a couple of strangers approached and we talked about things and I also invited to join a few different clubs. I guess what this event thought me is that I got to put myself out there in order to grow as a person.12746476_10206208477670645_678969789_n
