The Umbilical Link of Man to Robot
Atlas is an attempt at creating a self guiding robot that would be capable of completing tasks in very hazardous areas such as radioactive zones. The ability to employ robots to complete dangerous tasks can lead to a much more efficient and safe way of taking care of natural hazards. Each robot is worth about $2 million. Despite that being a very high number, as technology develops, the prices will drop and use of these machines will become more common. The team behind this machine is working hard to develop and program the robot for a competition in December at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The robots will compete at fairly simple tasks this year and next year they will have to overcome more complex challenges. The prize in this competition is $2 million.
