Juice WRLD & Marshmello – Come & Go

This is a song written and sang by the late Juice WRLD whom battled with several different things including substance abuse, depression, anxiety and other mental health problems that eventually took his life in the past year. Juice WRLD was a music mogul of the rap culture and departed us too soon because his songs were filled with relatable issues that many teenagers his age deal with. His presence and music will be missed, and his graces still walk this earth through his music.

  • 0:00 – The video begins with an eerie audio sound like when a tv has an ejected vhs tape or an electric guitar dims from a string on a loud stadium speaker. Such sound is then cut off with his appearance in black and white on stage with so many lights shining from the crowd making his appearance seem more than humane and almost angelic.
  • 0:15 – a series of flashbacks are played in the most very happiest and normal moments of his life, most include him being with his girlfriend. This is almost quite unbelievable when most of his songs are infilled with deep and pure sadness and struggle for a better purpose.
  • 0:20 – Then moments of what is conveyed in his songs are shown where he seems lost and stuck but overflowing his body with substances that he feels allows him to get through the day but are definitely not helping him heal.
  • 0:40 – Him and his girlfriend are turned into anime characters in which they are placed in a dark alley setting where they come across as to what seems like demons and dark souls wanting to possess Juice WRLD and his girlfriend is there by his side to help him fight them. In his lyrics he recites “I’m always messing up and wrecking it , it seems like I perfected it, I offer you my love I hope you take it like some medicine”. The metaphor seems to say that his loved ones or people close to him are “sick” of his mess-ups and he hopes the love he offers is enough for them to stay and help him through it.
  • 1:00 – He says over and over ” I don’t wanna ruin this one, this type of love don’t always come and go” as his animation presumes to slay all the demons/ souls attacking him and with his girlfriend not doing anything but providing him with fire to attack. The “fire” in this case may be her love, affection, or simple presence that brings him determination and desire to fight the battle.
  • 1:45 – In the midst of battling his demons that he struggles with such as substance abuse, anxiety, and depression which are his real struggles in life, his girlfriend was taken away by the ultimate devil and “dealbreaker” of it all which is his lack of presence in this world, whether he’s performing or simply not mentally there with her. Hence in the video, when she gets taken by the ultimate source, he then stops the battle when realizing she’s gone to go find her again because it is her fire that allows him to continue to fight and he needs her beside him.
  • 2:10 – He finds her again to determine she may have been wanted to be taken in the first place because she might be overwhelmed by his emotions and struggles as indicated in the lyrics at this point in the song. In addition, this is when all the demons are in a large amount enclosing in on the two of them in an overwhelming amount. However at this time because they are reunited and ready to face the task together, she fights with him proactively because she too is now facing these issues by being with him.
  • 2:20 – the ultimate source, which seems to be their biggest problem has delirious eyes that are purple and is stronger now than ever, and this may their substance abuse issue because Juice WRLD always talks about the different things he consumes on average and a lot of celebrities get addicted by the peer pressure of these drugs being promoted all around.
  • 2:40 – The source of substance abuse then becomes even more stronger and turn into a purple almighty devil and thus in that same moment Juice WRLD seems frightened to the point where he’s stuck and doesn’t know what to do. His girlfriend, strong enough to take the brunt of it all faces this fight with everything she can possibly give until she begins to suffer.
  • 2:55 – Seeing her face him and not giving up until she almost gives herself up in the process motivated Juice to regain the power and courage to slay and banish him to eternity
  • 3:25 – The animation ends with all the demons and souls diminishing into time and space and JW who had an 666 imprinted on his hand once the devil was defeated has now turned into a 999 meaning he now ended the cycle of demonic abuse and can see better days.

Hey Leeyah! I really liked this music video with the visual effects and the beat to the song with your interpretation of some of those scenes. One of the most interesting things I noticed was the devil’s number turning into 999. I was quite confused what the meaning behind that one was, but your interpretation about his bad time period being over makes sense. Maybe 999 has some kind of meaning that could mean peace or the end of a dark age but I am unsure. That would make sense based on the theme of the song being about him being worried of losing a fellow partner and how it was taking a toll on him.

    Hi Leeyah
I figured it was a brilliant video of music. It seemed that the album and the anime were a perfect mix. They worked well and made each other stronger. It was fun to see an anime, too. I didn’t know it was a song like this, but I liked it. I think Juice WRLD and Marshmello wanted to say that they’re developing as individuals, and they’re getting stronger like the anime. And finally, he’s going to defeat the strongest character and become the strongest character.

I havent heard this song till now it is really good. I like you interpretation when he was fighting all the monsters even though he was fighting alone he also had hid girlfriend which shows how close his bond is with her and how much he really relies on her

Wow hadn’t heard this song before, it’s a great one. I really did not see the anime coming. Also, it is really ironic to see Juice portraying substance abuse as the purple devil that he defeats in the end.

  1. This was not only a fire song, but a very cool anime as well. The lyrics and animation mix really well together. Thanks for sharing!
