This is a song written and sung by Sir Robert Bryson Hall II(also known as Logic) who recently announced his retirement from rapping and Christopher Comstock (also known as Marshmello) who is an electronic music producer/DJ. This song is called “Everyday” and was released on April 17th of 2018. The meaning that logic said he tried to emphasize on this song was about portraying the feeling of many people when they work hard in their jobs but are treated horribly by their bosses.
0:00 The video opens with Logic waking up from a nap which seems to be at an office job. He was woken up by his two bosses. He is trying to portray an office worker that works long hours and receives little to no sleep because of the amount of work he is given. He was in charge of preparing a presentation for his bosses about their company and something new they want to sell to a different company. The scene was portraying how some bosses have no respect for their workers even when they are working long hours to do their job.
0:20 The credits open with the scene of logic driving into the parking space of his office job with an old car which was conveniently parked next to a luxurious car that his boss owns. The video then cuts to logic passing out files and mail to the people at the office while he sings “I work hard everyday”. He goes into work clocking into the punch card time clock system which may be still today in office jobs but was certainly in offices a decade ago.
0:50 A montage of Logic is shown of him performing different tasks at his office job while trying to have fun there. The song at this moment states “ I work hard everyday, but today is my day” which refers to the portrayal of hard work paying off when you accomplish what you want, in this case logic was referring to him finally becoming a successful rapper. This is followed by many clips of him pondering about his life while he is doing his work and gets disrespected by his boss while doing nothing wrong.
2:30 He keeps singing.
“I’m tryna live my life, but am I doing it right”
From the visuals and him singing that line, I believe he is questioning whether his hard work is going to pay off. He just wants to live his life the right way, but he doesn’t know if constantly putting in hard work is the right way since he is constantly getting disrespected by his boss.
2:45 The clock just starts spinning fast in the office and the video cuts to a scene portraying logic as an old man and it seems like he is still working at the same job while still getting overworked by his boss.
3:30 The portrayal of logic being old seems to have had enough of working at his office job and refers to his job as “many works of enslavement”. He tries to start a riot by calling out people to join him and leave this job. Three people join him (one of them being Marshmallow) and they all follow him as he grabs the fax machine from his anger of it malfunctioning and being loud sometimes. They all manage to leave their office and get past security which follows up with a scene where logic throws the fax machine to the ground outside of the office and starts beating it up.
4:45 The scene where they throw the machine to the ground seems to be a reference to the printer scene in the movie “Office Space” which shows the exact same portrayal of the protagonist throwing an office machine to the ground and hitting it with a bat.
5:10 The scenario is suddenly changed to show logic driving off with the luxurious car that we saw earlier and went outside to have a good time like playing one of his favorite sports (basketball). The following scenes just included Logic doing his hobbies like skydiving or rock climbing, and it was all after he left the job he was working in
7:15 The scene cuts back to him being young again and this scene was quite important because it means that the whole scene of him being old and leaving his job was all a daydream that he had in the present while still working at his office. He starts looking around in confusion and starts to do the same thing he did in his daydream and just tries to leave his job. His boss was on his back screaming orders at him and he was sick of it that he voiced his opinion back at them. He then states “ Get out of my face, all you do is berate me. You made me work on christmas, on my birthday, etc. I am the hardest working person here and you still manage to not let me visit my aunt when she was getting her leg amputated” This is something many office workers have to deal with and I think Logic was trying to portray what those office workers must feel like when they have little leave of their jobs despite being a hard worker.
8:00 Logic proceeds to leave his office and the video cuts to the montage of him leaving his job in his car while smiling over the fact that he quit his job and while the song is playing “But today is my day, its my day” which could mean that he is content with his life after taking a risky decision of leaving his job.

Hi Luis, I really like this song and your analysis. I think this music video sends a great message about not settling for a job that offers no care or support for your wellbeing. I also like the Office reference with the fax machine because I’d have missed that.
Very interesting song choice. I dont really listen to logic but this song was great. It really addresses the problem that many are not happy with what they are doing. I liked the format of the video where logic woke up from his day dream and started to have that realization that the place he is in is not the place for him
Very interesting song choice. I dont really listen to logic but this song was great. It really addresses the problem that many are not happy with what they are doing and should take the risk to do something that they do enjoy themselves doing
I like Logic, but unfortunately I heard he is retiring after his album release soon. But what I like about him, is when he preforms he sounds exactly like he does in his sounds, which means he is natural and doesn’t use any effects on his vocals to make them sound better. He is also a motivational rapper, he raps about things happing in the world, and raps about change. I do not watch some of his music videos, but I love to. watch his performances.
Hi Luis!
I can see that this video has a double meaning. It shows the sad truth of how hard we are working and how we are being enslaved by our jobs. Strangely, when Logic transforms into a grandpa, the rhythm changes, and the mood changes. Even in the video, he’s the only one with a sports car in the beginning. I think that shows that the Logic is a guy who is not good at managing work stress and wants to get rid of it by leaving his job or trying to do something fun or talking bad about his boss. Overall good music video!!
Logic has continuously put out meaning content that also shows his rapping skills. This song was one of my favorites, that I would usually watch over and over again. Just by listening, you would be unable to tell what was going on, but your analysis helped visualize and conceptualize what was happening. So much happens in the video and I felt you were able to grab the best from it.
I like the choice of song, and the message of it was powerful seeing as the video was 10 minutes long. I feel like Logic’s songs always have a deeper meaning to them, like the 1-800-273-8255 song
Hi Louis I find the song very interesting although the message is about hard work which is necessary to maintain a healthy financial life it is important to recognize that life itself is very short therefore creating a balanced life between work and living life would the ultimate goal thanks for sharing
Hello Luis! I can see why you picked this video and what kind of message this video is trying to achieve. Most of times people are drown with work and stress. Their whole life pass in a moment without even realizing it. Work has to be a complement of life, we have to work to live, not to live to work.
I haven’t heard a lot from Logic, but it’s sad to here he’s retiring. This songs has a lot of messages for the youth, about what we choose to spend our life doing and whether it’s the right decision or not.
