“Roman Fever” by Edith Wharton

What is the relationship between friendship and judgment in the story?

I believe that relationship between friendship should be pure means that you should not hide anything if that is your best friend and is a good person. The friendship in the story was not trustworthy because they all are hiding something from each other. I believe that even though Ansley like Delphin Slade then both should tell this to Alida who is his fiancé. If you are making a relationship with someone make sure it is trustworthy especially friendship. Alida still judge Ansely in a wrong way even after years passed and Delphin died because if something that breaks no one can join that.

  1. I agree with you that friendship should be build by trust and honesty. For example Alida and Ansley they both were not honest with each other if they were their friendship will have been different. I believe Alida and Ansley blaming each other to feel free from feeling regret because now they realize that what they did is wrong. I also think Delphin should have been honest with both Alida and Ansley. In the end they all knew each other and they had the chance to say the truth to each other but they didn’t.

  2. I agree with your idea that any relationship should be built by trust and honesty. Delphin, even though he was no longer with them, should have revealed the truth about his affairs with Mrs. Ansley at some point in his marriage. It’s disgusting to me that through a whole marriage and having children together he never even told his wife of anything. After all the years of friendship these two women shared as well and the truth was never told until now.
