Free Education in Germany Causes Debates

 

“Germany Backtracks on Tuition” discusses Germany’s decision on abolishing college tuition and the different takes on this. On one hand, “open education is seen as a key to social and economic progress,” states the author. Paying for college was never part of the tradition and if a politician brings up the issue they are at risk of losing votes. On the other hand, paying for college has many benefits by helping state funding which is (in reality) very insufficient. These undergraduate fees help pay for better equipment, more books and student work places. The debate on free education in Germany still stands.
