Social Media Effects

Do you know how many people, including teenagers, are deciding to quit social media? Social media apps like Instagram are causing our young teenagers and women to become worried about their self image. It makes people lose track of reality. Young girls and women are easy to manipulate and trick. Social media is making women and young girls have unrealistic body goals and future goals. Lots of mindless scrolling happens when they are on these platforms. The social media app makers purposely design their apps the way they are. Other negative effects of social media are destroying our mental health. Women forget reality because they think social media is real and they often compare themselves with other women. Deleting your social media will be good for you.

People’s Experience

Women have said they noticed their self esteem go down. They are constantly scrolling on Instagram even when they do not want to. Instagram has advanced so much in recent years. Back then you could only see people’s posts from all over the world through the “explore” page. Now, even on the “main” page, after you finish scrolling of the people you follow, at the bottom, it just continues. Young people in our study reported significant usage levels of both social media and social networking, as well as general Internet use, with some reporting being on all day, this was despite beliefs that social media was a potentially ‘dangerous’ platform for mental wellbeing. The app makers purposely designed it like this so there will be endless scrolling. You have to decide when to stop scrolling. They even added a “reels” feature. The whole app has gone downhill. So many people complain about the app, and the creators just do not care. They are making money so they will do what they have to do. A lot of people work through social media now and some people fear they are missing out if they are not Instagram 24/7. Someone said “I can’t quit social media because it is vital to my success in the 21st century economy”. It’s so sad to see all these young men and women feeling like they are not enough because of social media.

Positives

Have you ever needed to contact a family member that lives across the world. This is where social media is very helpful. On the positive side, many people say social media helps them stay connected with friends and family, stay up-to-date on news, or find events happening in their communities. this keeps everyone safe. Especially during the pandemic, when people couldn’t see each other, social media apps were helping people stay connected and supported. This is a positive aspect of social media. But besides that, there are more negative factors to it as you have read above. Try deleting social media and see how it affects you. You will notice you have more time and feel much better.

PERSONAL Experience 

We are in the social media generation. All the different social media apps are always being promoted and getting you to download it. Do not fall into the trap. Social media has caused so many young girls and women to feel their worst and hate themselves for it. I have interviewed one of my classmates and they said they stopped using social media just for a week. It felt so good, but then she fell back into her old habits and started using social media again because of boredom. She didn’t really want me to go into detail about our conversation, so I didn’t include it earlier. Please consider deleting social media for your health. I know it improved mine a lot. I deleted almost all of my social media accounts because I didn’t need that in my life. I know of my life and I don’t need to prove it on the internet.

When the care taker neglects their child, it is probably because they were also neglected as a kid. They are passing down generational trauma. There are also many other reasons such as not being financially stable. This creates unstable homes for the children.  Sometimes, the caregivers are just traumatized themselves and take it out on their kids. The kids have to go through so much mental issues.

Effects of Child Emotional Abuse and Neglect

Emotional abuses and neglect can cause you to have lower self esteem. You feel like you have lost yourself. You don’t feel the same anymore. You have a lot of social anxiety and people will think it’s no big deal but in your perspective, it is a huge deal. It can lead to you hating yourself. It causes you not to trust anyone and you feel so alone. You can still be around people like when you go to school or work but truly feel so alone inside. When you are socializing with other people, you constantly think about what other people are thinking of you and then you fall into the thinking trap. 

Things that occur later on

It saddens the world to see young girls and boys commit suicide because of the way they were emotionally abused by their caregivers. This can be a tough topic to talk about with children who were emotionally abused or neglected. Talking about their trauma would cause them to have sudden outbursts or they would start tearing up. It’s unpredictable what they would do. A solution for someone who is extremely emotionally abused and neglected would be therapy. There are many forms and types of therapy and they would first try Psychotherapy. This is a small step they can take to overcome their trauma. Children who are emotionally abused and neglected don’t feel connected to other people. They feel like they are alone all the time. I see the different types of abuse that anyone can face. When you are a child and enduring that type of treatment, you wouldn’t know how to respond to it or even stop it. You are a kid and you are relying on your parents or guardians so you wouldn’t want to cause more damage. In a case like this, if a kid did decided to say something, the guardian or parents will say things like you have these things because of me, but in all honesty, as a parent or guardian, it’s your duty to care for the child, by feeding them and giving them a roof over their heads.

Some positives?

Being alone has some positive side effects on people. Being alone for a long time, do you feel good, or do you hate yourself. This helps people who are feeling lonely and think that it is a bad thing. Being alone can be really fun, you can truly express yourself. By spending time with yourself and gaining a better understanding of who you are and what you desire in life, you’re more likely to make better choices about who you want to be around.  I mean how free and honest can you be when no one is watching or judging you. It is fun and people should take advantage of it when they are alone. It helps recharge and make you feel better, especially if you have social anxiety. There are many pros and cons to being alone.
