Close Reading 1

The following sonnets are off limits for the close reading assignment: Wyatt, “My Galley” (and Petrarch 189); Spenser, Amoretti 1 and 34; Sidney, from Astrophil and Stella, 1 and 2; Shakespeare, Sonnets 20, 73, and 130. Any other sonnet from these poets (excluding Petrarch) is fair game. (To be absolutely clear: you should make sure that your close reading is of a sonnet and not just any poem; checking for 14 lines is a good first step. If you have questions, let me know.)

Here’s a close reading that does a particularly good job of analyzing details while also building a larger interpretation: Sample Close Reading
