Statue of Liberty

This is an image of statute of liberty. It was a gift given to the United States by France in 1886 to represent friendship between two countries established during the American Revolution. This image would be portrayed early in my movie. In the background during the Gilded Age, this statute would serve as a symbol of hope for immigrants. Many immigrants would look up to this statute to not only admire America but also find hope of freedom.

Child Labor

This is a picture taken by Lewis W. Hine in Tampa, Florida during the early nineteenth century. Hine, an investigator of National Child Labor Committee exposed pictures of many youngsters who were being exploited as a source of cheap labor. The picture reveals young workers who were all under the age of 14 at the cigar making company. These pictures left a great rermark for the Americans and revealed how rapid industrialization and a lack of regulation left these kids in such a state.

Watergate

Watergate Scandal first came out in 1974 when there was a break-in at the Democratic National Committee Headquarter at the Watergate Complex. Although it was first assumed to be a simple robbery, further investigation revealed that there was a connection to Committee to re-elect the president and the president Nixon himself. Although he tried to cover up his connections, especially the tape of wiretapping, the U.S. Supreme Court declared him to hand over the tape. As a result, President Nixon resigned before he was impeached.

Civil Rights Movement

The single most important change in the 1960’s in my opinion is the social change that arose due to the Civil Rights Movement. Starting with the Greensboro sit-in, the spark ignited a change. The blacks not only fought for termination of racial segregation, but also for social equality. Although it had a rough start with violence from the authority and the constant tension between the activists and the government, it served as a turning point in the American History.

With many organizations established, different races began to unite and protested in different means. Most activists practiced nonviolence ways of demonstration under leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks. The Civil Rights Movement re-established the meaning of Constitution for some group of people. It served as a turning point in the history of African American as they became more accepted and gained their freedom.

With invention of Microsoft, the globalization further expanded and brought different changes to not only the United States but other countries as well. It allowed the opposite of worlds to be connected and transfered data in matter of few minutes to even seconds.

Assassination of John F. Kennedy

From the Library of Congress

This picture was taken in Novmber 22nd of 1963 in Texas, few minutes before the assassination of president John F. Kennedy. He was shot during his presidential motorride in Dallas by an assassin named Lee Harvey Oswald. This picture can be accessed through the Library of Congress Prints and Photograph division Washington.

This event is significant in American history because he was the forth president to be assassinated, after Lincoln, Garfield, and McKinley. His death raised questions and objections for many Americans; even to this day, there are still a lot of conspiracy theories and debates regarding this event.
