Though the days of strict communism has faded from present Cuba, Cubans that were a part of those dark days embraced the conservative nature of Donald Trump in the 2020 elections. As people that came to this country with minimal resources, the promise of increased finances will always sound appealing. This is where Trump gains support. Since president Trump’s most reputable achievement throughout his four year term has been a booming economy, Cubans who lived under the communist regime of Fidel Castro during the cold war see Trump’s agenda as a step in the right direction. Cleverly, the republican party has associated socialist ideologies with the democratic party of today. This assumption was vital in Cuban ideology for this election since they have seen what restrictions on financial growth creates. Since communism has failed the country of Cuba, the opposition is something that older Cubans especially, deem mandatory to pursue. Ideally, Cubans want somebody in office who is a true capitalist, someone who creates an environment where money can be made without a limitation. In some of their opinions, Donald Trump is the man for that job.
