Women’s Nepalese Sewing Collective is Building a Refuge from Forced Marriage

Two years after the brutal rape in New Dehli, some people never learn and it was in the case of three guys getting beat up by two women that tried to rape them. It’s nice to know that at least in some parts of the world, change is taking place and is improving the standing of women in societies that abuse them so.

Here’s an article that I found on an Indian news site that describes a mother setting her daughter on fire for refusing to marry against her wishes. This took place in Kolkata, India and it was alleged that she was subject to normal torture from her step mother on a daily basis.

“This is how to bully a man; this is how a man bullies you” (Girl).  Check out this interesting video showing people’s different reactions seeing women or man being bullied in public.  Girls should feel happy this time! 😀

Here’s a link to a video that I found regarding  Rep. Peter King’s (R-NY) opinion of how Eric Garner died just a few days ago. Just some food for thought on the idea of Post-Colonialism and Hegemony that exists today.

Intersectionality

December 5, 2014

In light of the Mike Brown and Eric Garner cases, “fouseyTube” created an experimental video illustrating how people tend to treat each other in immediate situations. The video highlights race as the categorical factor supporting social injustice. I wanted to share this with everyone because fighting social injustice is difficult, but by seeing it we can understand how morally wrong it is, thus bringing us a step closer to ending social injustice.

Our discussion about “Girl” and “Giribala” focused on women’s role in society, and it made me question how does it affect the role men play. Laci Green answers that question as she explains how masculine traits of ‘dominance,’ ‘power’ and ‘violence’ support the suppression of traits that men and women both share.
