M.NourbeSe Philip’s poem, “Discourse on the Logic of Language” is a powerful, influence and meaningful poem. She uses language to passed toward her message with repeat words that are meaningful and important to get her message out. Toward her poem she repeat the “tongue” and I think this word is very important for her because our language is toward our tongue to speak the words out that are story, ideas and our words. Her poem is so different from other poem I read because the way she form her words show the way of the important within her story. She use the prefix of “man-“ which mean the power of people: manpower, manufacture, manipulate, maneuver, manage and manhood which mean people have become and use to survive in the society.
M.NourbeSe Philip’s poem can relate to Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass because both literatures using language to expressed their story and message. Douglass used the language to tell his story for the people after his death, which make is story immortal because it is going to live within people’s live forever. In his narrative it is similar to the poem because he words that go beyond the words that he put in his paper.
In the Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, he wrote “No words, no tear, no prayer” which make the slave-owner inhumane because those expression shows what human should have and this sentence is describe a monster that don’t have any feeling. In our class discussion, we talk about “I wish I could commit to paper the feeling with which I beheld it”, I don’t feel like we can be in his shoe because I believe that violence that he wrote in the narrative is not the whole story and how horrible of a experience that he saw. But I do believe that we is using his body to show when the language is stop because his body’s expression are a way of connecting with the reader because the reader can sometime feel those body expression.
