Joseph Laskowksi and Nicholas Zikos, two Baruch athletes, were chosen to be the ball boys at the U.S. Open Finals between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. To be a ball boy one must be at least 14 years of age, have a strong throwing arm, and be able to throw accurately. They must also keep score. This was Laskowski’s ninth year of being a ball boy, and Zikos’s eighth. Both athletes play tennis themselves. Zikos was CUNYAC’s Rookie of the Year in 2011, and Laskowski was an all-star for the first time in 2013 . Both athletes said they have learned a lot from the professional players just by watching them, and that they will continue their to be ball boys at the U.S. Open. Laskowski says, “I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.”
