The N word in today’s culture is heard and seen in most rap and hip hop videos is wildly used among peers from all races, especially millennials. Let’s bring awareness to the evolution of this derogatory word as well as the appropriating and appropriating of it. Not just on the influence that hip hop had had on the masses but on the brutal attacks on blacks.
Let’s talk reflect on the language and the emotion that we attach to words and pain that this word caused during slavery, Jim Crow laws and the civil rights movement, let’s take into consideration the value that we attach to it, considering how the N word has been part on the attacks of black people.
How can we approach this as a team?
- Think critically and self-reflect on how we use the N word.
- The extent to which language is a reflection of our inner thoughts and beliefs
- We need to self-analyze first, in order to do that we need to self-critique our self as well as analyze the sensitivity to difference to critically raise awareness
- As well as addressing the double standards around the word, that is complicated and tied to suffering and oppression.
- Understanding our different stories and places where we come from to come to mutual shared understanding
