Reflection

In this introductory 3D course I have learned so much. Everything from the beginning of new industrial technology through the text and research, which today is looked upon as common, to the new era that lies ahead with 3D printing.

I have been lucky to also work in the office where the 3D printers are, supplementing my 3D class. It gives me a different perspective on printing that I don’t usually get inside the classroom.

Inside the classroom I have enjoyed the jump exercises and challenging my mind. Although I consider myself a creative, it was still difficult generating ideas over and over again. I think there are two solutions to this brainstorming challenge. Working under a time limit constriction and allowing the mind sit on the task for a day or two and the mind works on it until new ideas pop up. This is how I was able to add on a couple of ideas to my team project.

My strengths include communication and generating ideas. I can develop both of these through practice. I tend to express more than I have to sometimes so I have to learn to be more concise.  I think doing more brainstorming exercises really help to challenge this ability of idea generation.

I have an ability to see objects and find new ways of using them (upcycling/repurpusing) and an ability to re-organize things around me to increase efficiency and effectiveness. I’m very interested in these activities and am passionate about the arts. I think this helps with our coffee project because I can go back to other ideas and re-work it with my team.

My favorite part has been the trips. Going to Maker Faire NYC and the Maker Bot store have been eye opening in the possibilities of 3D Printing.
