About the Event:
In this workshop, students read poems that draw on multiple languages. Looking at works by writers like Teresa Hak Kyung Cha, 최 Lindsay, Mónica de la Torre, and others, we discussed how poets transgress linguistic boundaries, complicate translation, and make meaning. In the second half of the workshop, students wrote their own poems. Students from all linguistic backgrounds were welcome!
Time and Date:

Highlights:
- This was our second poetry event in partnership with The Writing Center.
- We read different poems that were written in French, Spanish, and Korean by different authors and engaged in conversation about what could have been the purpose of their choice of language, words, and style.
- Students wrote their own individual poetry inspired by the works we read, and ISLA’s Coordinator of Student Affairs, Diego Gonzalez, shared a poem with the audience called, “Por Quien Fumas?”
