When you thought coffee roasters couldn’t get a more creative pour-over, that’s when NASA steps in and introduces the Poursteady.  Invite yourself for a cosmic cup of coffee at SuperCrown Coffee Roasters in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

The Poursteady is a machine that can deliver five pour-overs at a time, perfectly and ergonomically creating beverages for the barista, while their duty is to take care of the right grind and customers. The app-controlled machine allows to program specific temperatures, angles of water distribution and the speed of it.

“It’s designed by NASA engineers in Gowanus,” explains Nick Tinsley, the barista and manager at SuperCrown. “It’s essentially an automated thing. It’s basically a water delivery system. We control the amount of water and the way it’s poured through an app that’s connected to the machine.”

Co-founder and lead engineer Stuart Heys, works for government projects from his Brooklyn based workspace. In the reel of boring Mars-ready robots he focused his projects on for NASA, Heys decided to create a coffee machine.

It frees up baristas, instead of making them stand there and spend five minutes of time for a single pour over. You can make five pour-overs and meanwhile do other things, “It’s really handy, especially if you’re busy and you don’t sacrifice any quality, which is amazing.”
