International reporters have often suffered horrific treatment while reporting abroad; from torture to killing, these journalists put their lives at risk in order to report what is happening around the world. Due to an increase in social media, humans are instantly updated on what exactly is happening to these reporters. We have seen video evidence of reporters being tortured and beheaded in Syria via social media platforms.
Local journalists reporting in their country are in danger of the local militias, often dressed like civilians, attacking them while reporting. Foreign journalists working in Syria are in even more grave danger due to the distrust between Syrians and other countries like the United States. But alas, it is the news medias duty to report on the conflict going on in Syria. Now that the crisis in Syria is forcing citizens out to other countries, all people deserve to know what is going on in that country that is causing that mass and forced migration. If the world is not informed about the conflict, such a conflict will never get resolved.
While the hideous footage of what has been happening to international journalists has been disturbing to many, it is a necessary evil in understanding the crisis amongst journalists in foreign countries in crisis.
