Analysis of Multimedia Coverage

Find four pieces of multimedia journalism. Examples should come from more than one news website. Write a two- to three-sentence description of each item, including whether you thought it was effective or not. Be sure to copy the link into your homework. Be prepared to present your examples to the class on Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Examples can include photo galleries, audio slideshows, video (try to look for an example produced for the web, not a television report repackaged for the Internet), audio podcast, interactive map or larger interactive feature.

Pick a wide variety of Web sites. Type up your work and print out a copy that you will hand in to me. I will check them off to make sure you have all done the work.

NYC Story Ideas

Write up a two-page memo (double-spaced) with two or three subjects that you are interested in covering in this class. All topics must be based somewhere in the five boroughs of New York City or the suburbs (if you are commuting in). I am not looking for serious news feature story ideas that might touch on issues such as the economy, education, technology, the environment, neighborhood news, real estate, arts and culture, food trends. I think you get the idea! Do not give me overly broad statements such as “restaurants on the Lower East Side.” What is it that’s new in the restaurant scene? What problems are restaurant owners facing? Are residents complaining about noise? Dig around online, talk to friends, ask around… This is the beginning of a process that will continue all semester.
