This assignment represents one full grade for the semester. It is the assignment I grade the hardest. This is an absolute set deadline. Anyone who hands this assignment in late will lose one letter grade for every day it is late. Please see how I break down the assignment and how I will be grading it. Include as much information as you can. I am looking to see how successful you have been in launching your final projects:
- Detailed description of the reporting you’ve done so far with a clear statement about what the focus of your written story will be. Include here also who (SPECIFICALLY, NAMES PLEASE) you still have to interview. (20 points)
- Full names, titles and descriptions of TWO people you’ve interviewed so far. In this section, include two to three quotes from each person that you found most interesting and are likely to include in the story. (40 points/20 for each person interviewed)
- Describe your reporting plan for your video. What will it be about, what kind of b-roll will you shoot to illustrate story, who will you interview for video. Clear statement of focus of video report. (20 points)
- Describe the reporting plan for your second multimedia feature. What will you be doing, slideshow, podcast, interactive map, etc.? Tell me in detail how you plan to produce this feature, when and where will you shoot photos/collect audio etc. What is the focus and how does it fit in/complement with the other pieces of your project. Who will you interview, etc. (20 points)
Guidelines and key dates for producing your final project:
Week of Nov. 7: Make calls and send out emails to set up interviews with key people you need to speak to. Ideally, you will want to do at least one of these interviews later in the week or on the weekend.
Week of Nov. 14: Crunch time. Get two main interviews done and set up times to meet with the other people you need to speak to for the project. At this point, you should know what you are doing for your video and begin scheduling time for shooting it.
Weekend of Nov. 18-20: This may be a good time to do some video shooting for your story. If you do, you will find yourself in very good shape to complete the project without being caught short at the end of the semester. Also, write up your story memo in great detail so you don’t find yourself with a bad grade at the beginning of the process.
Nov. 22: Story memo due. Hard copy to me.
Tues., Nov. 29: First day of in-class production. You MUST bring to class either video you’ve shot to begin producing your video story or files that you’ve collected for your second multimedia project. We will use class time to produce/edit.
Thurs., Dec. 1: First draft of written story due. (Again, any day it’s late, will result in points taken off grade) More production in class.
Sunday, Dec. 4: Afternoon open lab with me for extra time to edit.
Tues., Dec. 6: You MUST bring to class either video you’ve shot to begin producing your video story or files that you’ve collected for your second multimedia project. In-class production.
Thurs., Dec. 8: More in-class production. Rewrites and edits for your written stories should be completed.
Tues., Dec. 13: All projects MUST be completed and posted to class website (more instructions on that to come). Mandatory attendance/screenings.
